Did you try Nantucket? I think prices in the area may have gone up, but they had some spacious 1BRs for less than $1600 a few months ago. If you shop around at North Park you may be able to spend less than $1600 - probably with an extended lease, though. And you'd then be able to walk to work, which would be great. There are places in Sunnyvale for less than $1500, they just won't have the nice amenities and possibly no washer/dryer, either. A friend of ours used to live at a Prometheus apt in San Jose near Brokaw that would be in that range. His unit was nice enough and it was close enough (3 miles perhaps) to 1st and Tasman and also right by 880 and grocery shopping.
