Smile I'm moving to Santa Fe!

Hi everyone ,
I'm new with your forum, and I must say I love reading what you have to say about NM, after 3 year of looking for properties we found one in Rancho San Marcos in Santa Fe. We have 4 horses and thought this area would be nice. I
would like to know more about the Pecos and Glorieta area. If anyone has any info I would appreciate it. By the way I'm moving from Florida.

Hi Sumi.

Welcome to the forum!

My husband and I own property in Eldorado south of Santa Fe, and will be moving there late this year or early next year.

I love the whole area around Santa Fe. I cannot give you a lot of details about Glorieta or Pecos, but I like them both....beautiful country. Another place I like is the Lamy area, where there might be property available large enough to keep horses.

I suggest doing a search on these towns through the front Page of City-Data Forum. If the town is listed there, usually there is good information. Also, do an internet search on Eldorado at Santa Fe. I know they have stables for boarding horses.

Hopefully one of the members of this board will be able to provide you some greater information, too, although I have not seen very much discussion of Glorieta or Pecos here.

Good luck!

Hi sumi, where in Florida did you move from? Horses...Ocala maybe? I'm in Tampa and debating if I should make the move to NM (ABQ). It's a toss up right now between ABQ, PHX and Denver. Congrats on finding something you like!

Hi Yukon,
My husband and I still live in Jupiter, We bought a property in Santa Fe. After
go to visit New mexico several time I feel this is the best place to live. We have traveled to colorado, arizona, and lot of other states on the east coast,
but New Mexico has it all, I total recommend it.

Santa Fe is too full of ex- New Yorkers and pretentious wanna be artist who think they are real artists.
It is not at all the place it was 20 years ago. That is why I am moving away. Too much phoney-baloney there.

A good decision to leave, Dorot.

Why live in a place we dislike?

Towanda - Eldorado is where I lived the 8 years I lived in Santa Fe. Sometimes I wish I hadn't moved even though I really like WA for the green and water. I loved my little house in Eldorado.

Sumi - Glorieta and Pecos - I've been gone four years but I use to be told it wasn't the safest place for a single white woman to live (that would be me.) It is a beautiful area and cheaper (at least at that time.) I want to feel safe so Eldorado was perfect--I always felt safe there. Not sure if things have changed.

Haha--just read the "you know you are from NM when..." and saw you were from Jupiter. You'll fit right in.

Dancingearth ~

We have done our homework in regards to Eldorado because I also want to feel safe in my home.

Although there is a small amount of crime there, nearly everyone we talked to has told us that Eldorado is still a very safe area. Much of the "crime" involves minor traffic violations and some minor vandalism, but often at places like the school, community shared areas, and dogs not being leashed and biting.....all of which they are working on very seriously because safety is one reason many people move into Eldorado.

Hi Everyone:
Pecos, and Glorieta are both in beautiful areas of pinon, and pines near Glorieta Pass, former landmark on the Santa Fe Trail, and site of New Mexico's biggest battle during the Civil War. Pecos is a very small town, and Glorieta even smaller. North of Pecos lies some of New Mexico's most beautiful wilderness areas, perfect for hiking, camping, fishing, or horseback & llama pack trips. This is also the headwaters of the Pecos River, which ambles south down to the Rio Grande in West Texas eventually. Nice trout stream! There are many picnic, and camping areas north of Pecos. Also, Pecos National Monument...ruins of a once large, and important Native American pueblo, and Spanish Mission. The SFT passed just on it's south side.
As another writer said...there is more "open" range lands for horses, between I-25 and Lamy. For others considering the Albuquerque area...w/horses...consider Corrales, NM along the Rio Grande, in far northern Albuquerque...Los Lunas in the South Valley, or the "booming" land sites on the east side of the Sandia & Manzano Mountains (adjacent to Alb. on the west side)...around Edgewood, NM.
If you want open spaces, and abundant sunshine without the humidity...this is the place! Happy trails!
