Diversity in Santa Fe
Hi, I'm flying into town in about two weeks for a interview and I was wondering how the racial attitudes of folks in NM. I'm Afro Latino male and single. Basically i'm worried about "The stares" and having people to hangout with and women to date.......any info would be much appreciated....Just trying to stomp out my nervousness...

Santa Fe and NM as a whole is a very diverse place. People are not all that uptight about that kind of stuff. Most people just don't care at all.
Good luck with your interview.

Ditto to what _yb says.
I have been visiting Santa Fe for many years and from what I have observed, it srikes me as one of the most diverse places in the country.
I think you will probably feel very comfortable there.
Let us know how your interview goes, and what your impressions of the town are.

Santa Fe accepts SOME forms of diversity.
I'm a New Mexico Native and know Santa Fe to be less accepting of certain types of diversity such as gays (not one gay bar in Santa Fe), Blacks,
and some foreigners. It's a very closed city to outsiders. If you're a tourist, you'll never meet the locals, except for waiters and waitresses, shop keepers and a few low-lifes that hang around the Plaza. It's also a town of the "haves" and "have-nots" and never the twain shall meet! A lot of people visit and think it's beautiful, which it is. Then they move there and aren't accepted into the society (unless you're very rich or famous). So they leave and find places like Albuquerque much more accepting of diversity.

I find Santa Fe is more the land of the haves and the have nots and many
of the newer "haves" didn't grow up here and most are transplants. After
saying all that you probably won't have any problems in Santa Fe or other parts of new mexico. I have heard of hippiees having beer cans thrown at
them by the local cowboys. That wasn't in Santa fe but it was in NM. Hope
the can was empty. Ha. Good luck on your interview.

If a cowboy throws a beer can you can BET that it's empty. Otherwise they would be wasting good beer.
