Day Trip to Santa Fe During Balloon Fiesta (Madrid: live, price) - Santa Fe County - City-Data Forum

Hello,

This is my first trip to NM and am excited to come to Santa Fe and explore. We will only have a day to do so, Sunday and am trying to determine what the best itinerary would be. Would you please help make suggestions?

It's not clear, but assume you mean you'll be in Albq and want to drive to Santa Fe for a day trip?

Santa Fe Plaza
Canyon Road
Railroad District
Museum Hill

Those are, basically, the 'big' 4 tourist/cultural areas of Santa Fe.
Santa Fe is a city of 77,000 people, but is surprising easy to drive through.
Though anyone NOT familiar with the downtown area streets.....good luck!
Parking can be a problem, so make sure you have plenty of quarters for the parking meters.

Thank you very much Steve. I will map these areas and bring a lot of quarters. I have the maps for the parking lots downtown and will use them as well.

Could you suggest a great place that we could have lunch at that Sunday? Thank you again for your response.

I think the Cowgirl, in the Railroad District is a trip!!
The food is decent and NOT terribly expensive.
Plus, some of the....er....characters that end up there, are worth the price of admission to boot.
They often have 'live' music also.
You could also try Zia, which is right across the street from Cowgirl.....mmmmmm!

Sounds like a hoot! Just what I'd like to see. And since we want to go over to the art market at the Railroad District that would be the place to go to.

I wanted to go down to Madrid, but there just isn't enough time in the day. You've help me put together a framework.

You could always drive north through Madrid on NM14?
Just take I-40 east until you hit the NM14 exit, then head north.
It's a pretty drive, and you end up in Santa Fe anyway.

Does the Railroad District have something going on all the time. Or is it just the Farmer's Market on Saturday? I am staying near the Plaza next week. Last time I was in Santa Fe the Railroad District wasn't open. Just the last few years I am guessing? Anyway, what is that like? Thanks
