Default Good Landlord Identification

After many years of being a landlord I now find myself becoming a tenant.
Could experienced renters please advise a newbie on what to look for in a potential landlord?
I am a firm believer in trusting ones gut instincts. But there must be more to go on than first impressions. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Did you like the kind of landlord YOU were? More importantly, did your tenants?
If so, look for someone with the same attributes you displayed.
You can also ask the landlord for past tenant references, and give 'em a call.
I would also view any property before renting to see how well maintained it is. Regardless of the rental cost there's no excuse for signs of a lack of care and ongoing maintenance.
Good luck....
