We had lots of green in KY but that means you're usually sourrounded by it with few wide-stretching views - unless you live on top of a mountain and clear the green for scenic view paths or on a big horse ranch with open fields (neither of which we did). Here there's limited green to get in the way of the great views. Maybe a subtle difference for some but my wife and I both find the vistas wonderful, more than making up for the green we left behind.

I also think savoring the vistas everyday stretches your perspective in a good way. Your world expands more then if you're hemmed in in your little subdivision, yard, etc.
As a Kentucky native, also been a resident for a stint in Louisville and a previous guest in New Mexico, I would almost rather live like a pauper in ABQ than middle class in Kentucky.

I'm glad you left Louisville. It's a dirty, mediocre sort of place with rude citizens who have strange senses of inferiority and superiority. I hated that place. I loved and love New Mexico and, while I am happy in California, NM would be on my short list of states were I to relocate.

Thanks for all the kind words.

The former owners of our house must work in the Santa Fe area until March 1, so they are renting the house from us. We are packing our house in Southern California for 'the stager' to come in and re-decorate with our (and other) stuff.....They take the 'personality' out of a house and try to make it inviting to everyone who looks at it. Yeah, they said we had too many books....so those are packed already. What a hoot: you decorate your home so it pleases YOU, then must un-decorate it so your taste does not offend any potential buyer. Welcome to real estate in the new millenium. Hope this works. Houses are not just 'flying off the shelves' these days. Our hearts are in Santa Fe already.....
