I was joking about the trendy part, if anyone thought otherwise. LOL

I guess I should have said more so trendy as in cool, and specified. No, not really fashion, lol. But thanks for the pointers, everyone.

When I think of Santa Fe, I can come up with dozens of adjectives that describe our city -- "trendy" is just not one of them.

It's hard to be trendy in a city with a 400-year history.

Not unless you consider that godawful turquoise, oversized concha belts and ridiculous cowboy gear trendy. Don't get me wrong, on real ranchers, the hat and boots look good. On others...well, let's just say they should stick with the chinos and polo shirts.

I see the "trendy" jewelry and apparel more on tourists than local residents.

I work at a hotel in town, I see rich Texan women wearing and buying all the Santa Fe knick knacks and jewelery more than anyone.

It depends on what you're interested in. Some people complain that there's not much nightlife, but I think that's improved with some new venues opening up the last few years. There used to be a couple of very cool coffee/teahouses to hang out at during the day, but those changed owners, and now they're blah. Someone mentioned film, and I have to say, that is really Santa Fe's strong point. There are several art film/indy film theaters and a good annual film festival with the best film selections I've seen anywhere. This is unusual for a small town of only 75,000 people. There's also a strong Native American community and Native American art scene. Santa Fe is multicultural and eclectic. If that's your idea of fun, then, "yes".

Indeed. The tourists who garb up like that crack me up. It's like the Hawaii tourists who wear floral print shirts and khaki shorts.

Default Santa Fe gets nod again as a top destination

Whether trendy or not...

Quote:
Every year for the last 17 years, Travel & Leisure magazine has polled its readers for the locations that represent the very best in travel for the magazine’s World’s Best Awards. In 2012, Santa Fe is included for the 11th consecutive time as a top-10 favorite for U.S. and Canadian travel destinations.
Clearly, the city is an enduring favorite with the publication’s large group of sophisticated and passionate travelers. This year, Santa Fe is ranked as the sixth most popular travel city in North America by the magazine’s travel-savvy readers.

For 2012, the top 10 U.S. and Canadian cities in the opinion of T+L readers are: 1. New York; 2. Chicago; 3. San Francisco; 4. Charleston, S.C.; 5. New Orleans; 6. Santa Fe; 7. Vancouver, British Columbia; 8. Savannah, Ga.; 9. Quebec City; 10. Honolulu.
