Looking at these projects I know I could design a far more efficient and less expensive means of transporting people from home to work. Unfortunately I do not have the "credentials" to warrent any consideration by the powers that be.

PS - The Big Dig is in some of the most difficult conditions possible. Not suprisingly it is one of the most expensive road projects ever.

Pardon me, but I think you misspelled "money" or "funds" in that post.
Be more careful next time.

I think I meant both time and money. Thanks for the encouragment.

Next step is to find a used copy of the American Railway Association Engineering Manual.

A long time ago and far, far away I stood on a roman road near Pisa. It was as flat and straight as when it was built 2000 years ago. I wonder if it was considered a pork barrel project at the time. Building permanent infrastructure is never a waste of resources.

Complete the Railrunner from Albuquerque to Santa Fe and start branches east and west along I-40. Then connect neighborhoods with modern busses or trolleys.

Nothing is permanent. The road is probably maintained/stablized in some way to keep it from falling victim to plant life.

But not at the same gaugue, right? This is something you have mentioned more than a few times. I don't see any reason for the two routes to be the same gauge.

The N-S RR used existing grade tracks for better or worse, but E-W, you could run it down the center of I-40 like some of the light rail systems around the country.

I'm so against this train !!! but what can we do now. It will never serve us who live in Alamogordo, Ruidoso, Clovis, Roswell, Artesia, Hobbs, Silver City, Deming, Reserve, Gallup, Grants, Farmington etc...etc...as our Infrustructure rots in these towns and cities.

I wish the people of Southern NM would petition to break away from New Mexico and form our own state with Las Cruces as the Capitol. I'll keep asking our southern Representatives and Senators for this.

Oh well.....wishful thinking.......

Would you be if it were funded where it sits?

> but what can we do now?

I don't think the Santa Fe extension is a sunk cost yet. If the legislature really wanted to kill the expansion, it could be done with little consequence. The B-to-B portion is money gone.

The B-to-B portion is money gone, and more money to go, since it runs a deficit.

Yeah. Just like the Sun Tran bus service. I wonder who pays for that?
I imagine it is the ABQ city government who runs it, but maybe not.

The deficit for either should also *not* be bourne by the citizens outside the service area.
