My wife and I are new to Santa Fe and absolutely love it here. We are exploring the idea of looking for property that is 20 or so minutes out of the city that would have the following characteristics
- Minimal zoning requirements- we are considering a tiny house
- Lower cost
- Safe

Any areas folks might suggest?

Cheap and close to Santa Fe? Does. Not. Compute.

All kidding aside, what is your idea of "lower cost"? That will help us determine if we can give you some guidance or not.

Yes, I probably should have defined lower cost...somewhere between $40,000-$70,000 for land (an acre or larger) with access to utilities. I have seen land in Santa Fe for around $70,000.

Thanks!

I could be wrong about this- but I suspect Eldorado's zoning would not allow a tiny house.

Are you talking about one of those things that are about the size of a large garden shed?

I don't know what Eldorado's zoning is but I hadn't seen anything small out there. They all look like larger type homes. I thought he was just wanting to live in a subdivision about 20 minutes out and that is about how long it takes to get from Eldorado to Santa fe.

Yes, about the size of a large garden shed. I gotta say they are cute as heck and have checked out a number of them online. I'd probably go stir crazy in a week but that's just me. I suppose the biggest thing is deciding what you want to retain possession of. Books or pots. Chair or winter coats........
