Hey all, I just moved to Santa Fe and I would love to hear your recommendations!
First, I am looking for reliable mobile phone service in South Capitol, (I have AT&T and have to walk up the block!) near Booth.
Also, I would love to get my cat to a new vet that doesn't charge $180/hr. I am interested to learn about better kitty diets, and with the natural food craze in Santa Fe I figure it has to cross over to the pet sphere too.
My car needs work, so if anyone knows a mechanic who's really good with Subaru transmissions (this shouldn't be hard, I have never seen more Subarus in one city ever...) I'd love to know.
And then, of course, recommend me the businesses! The best stores for scoring furniture and housewares deals, (I tried the consignment shops on Cerrillos already,) the cheapest good food, the coolest cafes, etc. Any places other than Willie's for live music? Any bars that are quiet(ish) and nice for talking? Any places for good food that have a patio?
All your recommendations are much appreciated! Have a good weekend!
We have AT&T cell phone; so far it has worked good all over town for us.
Don't know anything about cats. We have taken our dogs to Eldorado Animal Clinic and we like them so far, but unless you are out in the Eldorado area, it would be too far.
Don't know much about housewares, furniture, auto mechanics, or bars.
Cheap food? We're experts in cheap food. We like La Choza, Maria's, Harry's Roadhouse, Diego's Cafe, Guadalupe Cafe, Blue Corn Cafe, and Tortilla Flats. My hubby likes Bobcate Bite, but I have not been there yet. If you like authentic Mexican (not New Mexican) give Los Potrillos a try. We weren't crazy about it, but you may like it; many people do.
La Choza, Guadalupe Cafe, Harry's and Maria's all have outdoor patio dining.
There are many more places on our list that we haven't gone to, yet. Let me know what YOU find out there.
And.... welcome to Santa Fe and to the C-D New Mexico forum.
Add the Zia Diner to that list for an eclectic cuisine. They have a nice bar but we are not much in the way of bar users -- so can't rate it. It seems like a lot of young people hang out at Cowgirl Cafe.
We have five in the family using Verizon and are perfectly happy but don't live in your part of town.
There is a Subaru specialist in town, but I forget the name. Ask around -- people know.
I have Verizon and don't have any problems with service anywhere in town.
Add Horseman's Haven, Tecolote, Pantry, Red Enchilada and for really inexpensive eats and good drinks go to Del Charro (the bar at the Inn of the Governors). It is a very limited menu, but nothing over $6!
As far as live music, the Tin Star Saloon has some great live music, so does El Farol (although they usually have a $7 cover) the lounge at the Hotel Eldorado sometimes has some good music and the Santa Fe Brewing Company is having some great music now for the summer. Some big national acts at their outdoor stage and some great brews.
For natural cat foods and vet recommends- check Pete's Pets on Cerrillos just south of Camino Carlos Rey.
Cheap furniture- good luck. Target often has better prices than Goodwill or Salvation Army in SF. Check outlying areas like Espanola or even Los Alamos for better deals. Otherwise, yard sales... but beware of "Estate Sales".
Entertainment: along with places listed, check out
Second Street Brewery (Patio, Music, pretty good food and comfortable atmosphere)
Xiclo (patio, Vietnamese food)
Santa Fe Brewing Co.: patio, mid-level national touring acts.
Counter Culture: cafe, beer wine, patio
Most of the bars are quiet(ish)- what are you looking for? Higher end, pool tables/hangout, drink options, younger/older crowd?
Dont forget PC's off airport for some good food that is not over priced. Also flying tortilla is good as well, same owners as the pantry, same food to!
You are the second person that I have encountered who has recommended PC's off Airport. The other was a young man who was with the moving company that delivered our stuff when we arrived. Going to have to try that place!
I like the Flying Tortilla a lot, too!
