Look at all the interesting vinegaroons. I find them to be fascinating.

LOL. Note to self, don't put the pot with a vinegaroon on it anywhere near Towanda's feet.

I check the Santa Fe site every so often. But when I saw some of these critters, I thought, "I don't know what the heck that thing is, but if it comes towards me, it's going to die!"
Very interesting site, though.

Hi SeeBee,
Thanks for checking the Santa Fe site.
Our forum is new, and our numbers are small, but we like to talk and we hope to grow.
Come visit the forum often! Have you visited Santa Fe?

Hi, there Towanda....Thanks so much for the welcome . Yes, I have visited Santa Fe, many, many years ago, and the area around Taos. I look at photos of northern New Mexico, and wonder how could anyone not be drawn to it, the desert, the mountains...but, realisticaly it's too expensive for me to move there.
I am in a "searching" mode, looking for what will ultimately be my retirement home. I have commitments here in Portland, for several more months, and then I would love to visit northern New Mexico one more time, before I make a final decision. (See, I love to talk, too!!! )
Anyway, thanks very much for the welcome!

Educate yourself about them before you kill them. They want nothing to do with you, and if theyre coming towards you its mainly because theyre virtually blind. You could put your hand out and it would walk right over it, never even noticing you.

No conclusion jumping, please!!! I was only half-joking. You know, like Towanda was joking. Mother nature rules in my book, and it is our responsibility to acclimate ourselves to the world around us, not the other way around.
I know that most of the creatures are blind, and want nothing to do with humans. Why on earth would they - they all were here before us, and they'll be here long after we're gone. I also can differentiate between many species whose venom is poisonous or simply a painful irritant. But no matter what, they will not share my kitchen, so to speak.
I have much to learn, true, and I did find that website very interesting.
I respect Mother Nature and the life we have around us - we are only part of the chain of life, and Mother Nature will win in the end, anyway.
I'd like to share a somewhat mangled version of this poem (just don't remember all of it ~ - I think it's written by G. de Maupassant ).
Oh, cruel men
From our own wings you drew
The plume that winged the shaft that slew,
But mock us not, you heartless race,
You too shall share someday share our fate.
For half at least of Yaphet's brothers
Forge swords and knives to slay the others.
