Hi everyone!

I'm looking at Santa Fe as a possible relocation spot, and would like to know how bad, or not bad, is the insect life in Santa Fe? Especially mosquito's?

Seems like an odd, nit picky question, but I discovered, too late, that the mosquito's here in upstate NY really hinder my being able to enjoy the outdoors fully in the summer.

Thanks for any input.

Well, they only meet for 30 days in evenly numbered years, and for 60 days in the odd years, so some years are worse than others.

Hi lypeaches!

Welcome to the C-D New Mexico forum!

I grew up in upstate NY, and that is a really buggy place!!!

In comparison, I have (so far) found less bugs here in Santa Fe.

I am not sure we have mosquitoes because of the dryness here. I have seen some little spiders in my house, and a lot of bees because they love my flowers. And we did have one little snake which got into our house one week after we moved in and that was a little unsettling.

Flies? Don't know. Haven't seen any yet.

People who have lived here a lot longer than I will be able to give you better answers.

Thanks for the welcome and replies!

I'm not unreasonable...I know there are going to be some bugs no matter what. I just don't want to move to another place where I'm essentially held captive in my own house by mosquito swarms lurking outside the door.

One thing we had in New York was those tiny little gnats that would swarm around you if you tried to eat outside.

So, far, we have eaten all of our meals outside on our portal, and I have not seen any bugs like that.

I had a mosquito bite a couple of year ago, but I can't remember clearly.

It might have just been a zit.

Unsettling??? Could you expand on this just a little? You know how I love a good snake story.

Or, perhaps there should be a new thread about "unsettling moments caused when little snakes get into your house."

No see-ums at dusk are a problem in some areas. I've rarely seen a mosquito here. I was glad to get back from my visit to PA--ticks, mosquitoes, and poison ivy. Ugh.

There are scorpions and rattlesnakes, as well as giant centipedes and black widows in the area. Just watch where you put your hands and feet, and you should be ok.
