Default Help me please--Seriously thinking about moving to Santa Fe or other city

I would really appreciate some information on housing in Santa Fe and some of the other cities , but esp. Santa Fe...how much does a one bedroom apt. run--(not shy about living in poorer areas to start out)ANY AND ALL REPLIES APPRECIATED AND READ--also what is the job market like--I hesitate to move to NM because some posts talk about the high incidence of poverty -----is it that bad for a working class female to land a job there? (again, willing to take a low end job at first)...thank you so much....

Can't tell what the rental prices would be in Santa Fe -- but probably higher than other places in NM. But the Santa Fe minimum wage means that low end jobs pay better.

A 1 bedroom apartment in Santa Fe runs from $95,000 up to, well, wherever you want to go. I would feel comfortable suggesting $145k as a good price to find a good 1 bed in a decently built, well managed development.
As to work, I would certainly look at the State Personnel Office website http://www.spo.state.nm.us/jobseek.html and the City job site Santa Fe, NM - Official Website to give you a sense of the non-service worker jobs in the city. For all kinds of jobs, visit the job section of the Santa Fe New Mexican, Santa Fe and New Mexico news and information - SantaFeNewMexican.com

Check out craigslist.org for apartment costs. You could talk to a temp agency about jobs. A co-worker got his job where I work by starting as a temp but that was 8 years ago--not sure what it is like now.

You will find a job, and maybe you will have to work 2 or 3 jobs to survive here. The problem is not finding jobs, the problem is that you can take a low end job and still have that low end job after 10 years of hard work. I think that's one of the things I have learned, the upper end is virtually non-existent out here unless you are an entrepreneur.

I think if I wanted to emphasize something to people about Santa Fe that would assist in their thinking it would be that this is a small, historical town, and really that is the charm about it, and that is the way most of us would like it to stay. We hopefully will never go the way of big development and strip malls, but that also means most of our industry is always going to be tourism. That means most of the jobs will be low paying with not much room for advancement. We just don't have industry like Intel in Rio Rancho, and we aren't really looking for it either.

Much of what you say is true except that the county is attempting to get that new movie studio. Is that going through?
