Thanks for the info GreatSantaFe. We're going to try our luck finding a place within 15 minutes of downtown (less is better!). I'm just lucky/spoiled in having a 12 minute commute to work in my present location and would like to avoid increasing my commute time if possible. I have found a few promising options that I'm hoping to be able to check out when we're in SF at the end of the month.

"If you are getting from Lamy to downtown in 20 minutes, you must be quite the leadfoot."

I got a chuckle out of that, Vinegaroon, but it's true. I live fairly close to 285 and it takes about 15 minutes or less to get to the Old Pecos Trail exit, and from there it's only 5 minutes or so (depending on the time of day) to the plaza. (And, truth be told, I do about 80 on I-25).
Blue Belle - Glad you've found some possibilities. You might also want to take a look at the Old Las Vegas Highway and Sunlit Hills areas - safe and somewhat reasonably priced and within 15 minutes of town, and very close to I-25 for your husband. Only possible drawback is that depending on location you might be within earshot (and sight) of the interstate. Good luck with your move!

Can anyone tell me anything about the W. Alameda area (to the North and South) between St. Francis and Calle Nopal? We have a few promising prospects in that area. Thanks!

It has a kind of rural feel to it, depending on what area. There are some developments with some nice houses but small lots and there is some older, more rural residences also. It is a nice area for the most part.

I lived in that area for nine years, and it was terrific. If I was feeling ambitious, I could walk to work when the weather was nice. Convenient to Centennial Pool, the dog park, pretty much anywhere. Go all the way down Alameda, and it's an easy to hook up on 599 and then I-25. Mix of neighborhoods, two cooperative housing communities, and I wouldn't personally have a problem living in any of them. I'd say it's definitely worth checking out.

Aldea de Santa Fe is a wonderful subdivision and is located off hwy 599 and the Frontage Rd. to La Tierra. This is quick access to I25, about 5 to 7 minute to the Plaza. The North & East side to Santa Fe are more desirable. I would also look at the Casa Solona & Barrio de la Canada. El Dorado is a bit of a drive. Why not be as close to work as possible in a great area.

Thanks to everyone for your input... our trip to SF was a success! We found a great place in the W. Alameda area and will be making the move later this month.

Also, for the record, I could not handle the green chile at Tecolote! And I thought I was tough!

Hey! Great news Blue Belle. Bienvenidos! Don't beat yourself up about Tecolote's green chile. The chile as a whole is something of an acquired resistance. Give it a few months and you'll be taking your breakfast burrito back to the shack you bought if from saying: "You can barely even see any green chile in this, much less taste it.".

Things coming up for Santa Fe in September:
Fiestas! With everyone's favorite 49 foot flaming puppet: Zozobra
Spanish Renaissance festival at El Rancho De Las Golondrinas

Congrats, Blue Belle! Welcome to the Land of Enchantment! If you think the green is hot at Tecolote, you'll have to try the green and the red at Horseman's Haven. My last girlfriend wouldn't even eat there because the chile was too hot!
