Recommended Reading
If you enjoy history, I just finished "Blood and Thunder" by Hampton Sides. It's a great book, and focuses on the life of Kit Carson. Some of the book brings Santa Fe, Taos and other parts of New Mexico to life. I highly recommend.

"109 E. Palace" is an amazing book. It is the address in Santa Fe that was used by Los Alamos during the Manhattan Project. It is a small space that was used as a greeting area for those coming to work on the bomb. The books focuses more on the people that have to move there from all over the world to work on the bomb on life there rather than the bomb itself. Very good read.
"The Milagro Beanfield War" gives a great outlook on rural Northern New Mexico.
Anything by Rudolfo Anaya, especially "Bless Me, Ultima" is good.
As I think of more, I will post them.

Great suggestions. Thanks guys. There's a book called: Sin Nombre (without name). Talks about the early Spanish Colonial artists who's work was mostly faith based and therefore went unsigned and unrecognized. Paints a nice portrait of NM during that period.

I LOVE Rudolfo Anaya's books. I read "Bless Me, Ultima" first, and recently read "Alburquerque" (He adds the extra "r" to the name of the city, because he says that is the original spelling.) I loved both of the books, and am glad he has written more novels so I have more of his writing to enjoy.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I'm a voracious reader during the summer as I wait for the snow to return. Towanda, maybe we need a sticky for recommended New Mexico reading?

We are allowed only two sticky threads per forum, and we already have restaurants and photos.

O.k., well we will all just have to keep reading about NM and post more good books so it is bumped.

Maybe this thread should be switched to the NM main page and stickied. Seems like it would a subject a lot of people would be interested in.
