Hello, I am visiting Santa Fe?Taos next month(mid month) and I have seen a great of tourist information. But, can anyone who lives recommend anything maybe more off-the-beaten/tourist track that locals know about. We are interested in anything related to art and also restraunts(not too pricey though). Thanks!

When in Santa Fe, if you're an old hippie check out the town of Madrid (MADrid) about a half hour south of town on Hwy 14. Eat at the Mineshaft Tavern (cheap) and check out the many galleries.

In Santa Fe aside from the tourist haunts on Canyon Road and the Plaza, visit Nedra Matteucci's wonderful gallery on Paseo de Peralta (it's for sale for $13M if you're interested!), the newly emerging art scene in the Railyard district and the Center for Contemporary Arts on Old Pecos Trail. For good quality inexpensive food many locals (and tourists alike) go to Harry's Roadhouse south of town on Old Las Vegas Hwy.

In Taos I like the galleries and the Harwood museum on Ledoux Street. Also, after you've seen the galleries on Kit Carson and Paseo del Pueblo Norte, you might want to go a bit north of town to visit the Millicent Rogers Museum. For good inexpensive eats, try Bravo! - a bistro on the southern part of town on Paseo del Pueblo Sur.

Have fun!

Bravo! is closed - try Rellenos cafe and order the rellenos en nogada.

You might want to check out Chimayo, it's a very small spanish town with El Santuario de Chimayo which is a church with a room full of "healing dirt" which you can take if you want. It's very old and very beautiful (I was just there today), not to mention there are a lot of little stores with weaving shops around the area. Also it's a very pretty area in general and it's kind of off the beaten path. It's about 30 miles north of Santa Fe I believe.
