Default Argh... Eldorado is starting to get to me!

I've seen a lot of people asking about Eldorado so I decided to post my two cents...

I live in Eldorado and it is starting to really get to me! I like the fact that the houses and nice, large, and spread out, but we have nothing out here! The drive back and forth to Santa Fe is getting tiresome. I don't care for the supermarket here but it is handy to pick-up quick things. The restaurants are overpriced and really not that great. Brumby's is the best of the bunch, but is only open at dinner time.

Which is another thing... I know people out here don't want it to get over commercialized (I get that), but the restrictions are rediculous! Would it really kill anyone if we had a McDonald's or a LottaBurger in Eldorado? I really don't see why it would be a big deal! I like the small town feel or Eldorado, but even small towns have a McDonalds.

Just a little math I did the other day.... from my house to the St. Michael's McDonalds in Santa Fe = 27 Miles. 27 miles = about $5.50 worth of gas in my car. Typical cost of eating at McDonlads = $7.00.

Yeah that's right.... $12.50 - $13.00 for one person to get some McDonalds if you live in Eldorado. Not to mention the terrible waste of time, gas, and that fact that your food will be cold when you get home.

Does anyone else feel this way sometimes?

I'm not a supporter of chain businesses at all... but I do feel for your lack of fast-food. I would support a Lotaburger.

Can they really keep a chain out? -- seems like that's interstate commerce and Eldorado wouldn't have a legal leg to stand on.

I used to live in Stowe, Vermont and they didn't want a McDonalds and they made McD carve the golden arch into a wooden sign and side the building in cedar shakes, but they couldn't keep em out.

Funny thing is -- the people in Stowe Vermont and all the tourists did NOT want to eat at McDs and the place went out of business.

If you love McDonalds that much, why not secure a McFranchise and put one in yourself?

Default Forget Lotaburger in N.M.

Lotaburger has Huge Great Looking burgers but those Burgers leave a Bad taste in my mouth after awhile. Who knows maybe they put too much Mustard. Mcdonalds is your best Choice but i imagine a Franchise would Cost a few Million Dollars. But who knows maybe you could open up A Clines Corners or Flying C Type of Deal on Interstate 25. pintada kid at webtv.net

You won't get any complaints out of me about Eldorado.

I love Eldorado. I CHOOSE to live here because it is NOT the city with a McDonald's or other fast foods on every block.

Seems like you are making some assumptions that fast food is not allowed here. Since there is a Subway here, I have to assume the zoning of the commercial areas allows it; maybe no one has been interested in opening a McDonald's or a Lotaburger out here. (We DO have Bobcat Bite just down the road a couple of miles which is pretty well known for awesome hamburgers.)

I hope you mean the ROUND TRIP to the McDonald's in Santa Fe is 27 miles, because I would say the nearest McDonald's from my house here in Eldorado is the one at St. Michael's and Pacheco, which is 13 miles from my house. IF I wanted McDonald's (which I wouldn't) I would just eat there while it is hot rather than driving all the way home with it and letting it get cold.

I don't shop at the supermarket here in Eldorado much because the prices are higher than Smiths or Albertsons in town. BUT it is nice to have it here to pick up something you run out of.

Most people that I have talked to who live here (and I share their opinion) is that we live out here because we like the solitude and the rural feel -- and we don't particularly care to have the city encroaching on us.

Your statement that there is nothing out here is really puzzling to me. For a subdivision in a semi-rural area, I think we have a LOT - supermarket, several restaurants, coffee shop, gift shop, pharmacy, mail store, bank, dentist, fitness center, furniture store, library, video store, community center, senior center, elementary school, wilderness area, greenbelts, paved walking trails, community pool, gas station, as well as our own fire department/ambulance. I am sure there will be more things coming in the future.

I guess I am truly puzzled as to why you are living out here if all that is not enough for you.

One other thing that puzzles me --- you say you live in Eldorado, but your location says Orange County, California.

Which is it?

Sounds like a transplant to me.

You all have really surprised me! I was expecting a pro-developement bend to this conversation... thank God it didn't happen!

Nobody wants to be a tenant of their own property!

I agree about Eldorado. It is a boring little bedroom community with little character and plenty of wind. I'm glad some people seem to like it though, as it keeps our population down in Santa Fe.
