The air is clear...but what about the soil?
I've heard that Santa Fe has great air, but what about all of those nuclear tests they did throughout the west in the 50s? How are your cancer rates, water/soil quality, etc. Does anyone have any input on this?

I just found a great website that states the cancer rates per 100000 for each state. Santa Fe seems to be average, not above average which is good. Less than here in Asheville too.
It's the National Cancer Institute under state profiles if you want to check it out

Those tests were performed hundred of miles to the South of Santa Fe.

True ~ but the wind and rain can carry chemicals, etc. hundreds of miles too...some counties in NM have really high cancer rates, Santa Fe doesn't so I'm not too concerned about it personally.

The cancer rates are probably skewed by Radon gas.

Thanks for the responses. I'll check out that website...the only thing that had me thinking about the stats with Santa Fe (and please, correct me if I'm wrong on this) is that I've heard that a good chunk of the population is transient which could throw things off (or at least I would think).

Really? I'd like to read on that, could you tell me where you found it? Also, I found a radon list for the usa by counties too ~ it's on the EPA's website.
I would really like to know more about the population in transient though!
