Question When will the Farolitos be up in Santa Fe?

Sorry, new to the area... We've heard so much about the Farolitos and are anxious to see them this year. My mother-in-law is coming to visit for Thanksgiving and we plan to spend some time in Santa Fe, we were hoping the Farolitos would be lit by then so she can see them too. Will they be up/lit by then? Thanks

Sogs ~ I am hoping someone answers your question, because I have not been able to find any information about the farolitos.

I MAY be wrong (won't be the first time - LOL) but I THINK they light the farolitos on the Plaza the night after Thanksgiving. (Friday night, Nov. 28)

Maybe we will see you there!!!

Xavious Orgus is on a distinguished road
Isn't the Farolito walk on Christmas eve? Or is that the canyon road walk only?

Thanks

Default Luminarias & Farolitos Holiday tours etc.

Lots of parades and lights, festival, craft shows, Tree lightings, etc. through out NM {find a good list of the Holidays celebrations in the December 08 issue of New Mexico magazine}.

So far, the earliest Farolito & Luminarias ones I see are:

Aztec- Christmas Parade and Farolito Celebration at Minium Park, Dec. 5th.

Socorro- Fifth Annual Luminarias on the Plaza Arts Crawl. Dec. 5th.

Farmington- San Juan College Luminarias, through-out the campus. Dec. 6th.

Jemez Springs- Farolito Tour at Jemez State Monument, Dec. 13th.

Las Cruces- 10th Annual Luminaria Tour at Fort Selden State Monument, Dec. 13th.

Rio Rancho- Jinglefest Carnival and Luminaria Tour at Haynes Park, Dec. 13th.

T or C- Beachwalk Luminarias at Elephant Butte Lake State Park, Dec. 13th.

Raton- Christmas on the Chicorica Farolitos on the Riverwalk Trail at Sugarite Canyon State Park, Dec. 20th.

Dec. 24th- Christmas Eve.
Alburquerque- Luminaria Tour. Bus tour starts in historic Old Town. Dec. 24th.

Mesilla- Christmas Carols and Luminarias on The Plaza. Dec. 24th.

Santa Fe- Farolitos on The Plaza, Canyon Road area and the Cross of the Martyrs. Dec. 24th.

Some of the Catholic churches will have Celebrations, vespers, mariachi Mass, dances etc.
Dec. 11th and 12th for Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, across the state {couple Big ones in Alburquerque and Santa Fe, at their churches}.
These might have Luminarias too. Call the churches of the 'same name' there, for informaton and times.
You don't have to be Catholic to enjoy these Celebrations, just be a little respectful and enjoy

Hope these help, call the local city/towns Chambers etc., and see if you find more to add to the list!

Soggy -- the best information that I have been able to find for you so far is that the faroitos are lit nightly at the Plaza from December 15 - 31.

So, I think Thanksgiving weekend might be too early for them. Still looking.....

Great, thanks for the info... I don't need an 'organized' activity like the Canyon Rd walk, just wanted Mom-in-law to see the farolitos. They were putting them up in Old Town Abq when we were there so thought that Santa Fe plaza hotels & shops might have them up too... But like you, I can't really find anything about it on the web.

There are plenty of plastic ones already up all over Santa Fe ... but I am thinking you might mean the far prettier ones in the paper bags.

(I personally HATE the plastic ones.)

The plastic ones may not be as pretty, but can you imagine what our little thugs would do with paper bags and fire if you left them around the Plaza?

Better to wait for the Canyon Road walk and only have the paper bags around long enough for the event, or else we might have some fires set.

I'll take the plastic ones at this point. Although I do agree, the 'real' paper bags with candle ones are much prettier. I hope we are here on 12/24 to see the Canyon Rd walk...

Most businesses, even downtown, use the plastic ones. I have a small house so it is not hard for me to use the traditional ones. And the plaza will of course have the real thing also. Those that can make it should not miss the farolito walk on Christmas Eve on Canyon Rd. It is amazing.
