From the Santa Fe New Mexican Police Notes, Page C6, Dec. 25, 2008:
1. "A man reported that while he was in his car, he was robbed of undisclosed items at gunpoint at 6:19 p.m. Tuesday in the 2200* block of Cerrillos Road. A male with a handkerchief over his face put a gun to the victim's left temple then got into a black Pontiac..."
*Note: Many tourist and restaurants motels are located in the vicinity of 2200 Cerrillos Rd.
Santa Fe County:
2. " Deputies responded Tuesday to a call about an 18-year-old man pointing a handgun at himself at the Camel Tracks hiking area... Upon arrival deputies discovered a domestic dispute...and at some point the man had fired a 9mm handgun in close proximity to a woman and small infant. A firearm was recovered."
WAKE UP SANTA FE--TIME TO TAKE OFF THE ROSE COLORED GLASSES OF DENIAL. THERE'S A SERIOUS PROBLEM HERE AND IT'S GETTING WORSE.
While this is certainly a problem! It is unfortunately no different than any place else in the US. I live in a small (extremely safe and economically sound) town of approx: 12,000. Yet amazingly, we have crime as well!
I do agree, the time has come for citizens to rise up against this behavior. It is unacceptable for people to stand back and do nothing, while someone is being wronged by a less than moral or ethical person. I personally have no tolerance for that type of behavior!!
Unfortunately, Santa Fe is not the only place that will be experiencing these events. Many trends forecasters, economists, etc. are predicting these types of events in the near future.
Due to the level of corruption (lack of morals and ethics) at the highest levels of corporate America, the bulk of our industrial base has been outsourced. Thus, working class people are loosing their jobs in great numbers. When you start stressing the working class (loss of homes, jobs, health care, etc.) you will eventually see a rise in the crime rates. After all, what else do you have to lose?? Who is likely to experience the rise in property crime, personal crime and become the punching bag to vent frustration? The logical choice is... the "wealthy".
I point this out because it is not a Santa Fe problem. Rather, it is a global problem that is just now starting to show it's ugly face, right here in the US of A.

Our masked marauder was last seen at 2nd Street Brewery, playing cards with a New Years hangover
