We own a home in SFE off Airport Rd that currently has carpet. We are interested in changing it to wood or laminate. My preference is for hardwood, but there are some good prices on high end laminate right now. I personally have never seen laminate here in SFE on any of the home tours I've been on. It seems hardwood would be better for resale value in the future. Our home is currently in the $300,000 range. Any advice would be helpful.

Personally I would not invest in changing your floor if you are thinking of selling soon. I do not think the resale value would justify the change. Some people might not want hardwood or laminate, just new carpeting. Others might be o.k. with your current carpeting. On the other hand, if you are staying in the house for 5 years or more, it might be a good move. I have seen some really nice examples at both Home Despot and Lowe's, so I would suggest a trip out there. I like the wood look too, but with our cold cement foundation, I don't want to walk on that stuff in the winter. Carpeting might not be as visually appealing, but it is soooo nice to walk on with bare feet compared to wood surfaces.

I agree with Vinegaroon. Unless you're planning to sell your home in the next year or two, put down the floor that YOU want to live with. When you come to sell your home, what counts most is a clean, fresh home - as many people will want carpet as wood (or woodlike) flooring, so don't stress over that, just get what you want.
