Default Latest bloodshed in santa fe new mexico

FROM THE SANTA FE NEW MEXICAN "POLICE NOTES", THURSDAY, JAN 22, 2009:

1. "Two males followed a Santa Fe man to Torreon Park on Monday, where they approached him. One of the men then shot the victim in the arm with a black handgun... The men fled in a gray...Ford Explorer."

2. "An Albuquerque man reported that an unknown man robbed him of $55 at knifepoint Monday at the intersection of St. Francis Drive and Cerrillos Road."*

*This is one of Santa Fe's busiest intersections located a few blocks from the new main Railrunner station and the new trendy Railyard Center with its several high end art galleries, high end artists' lofts and new farmers' market.

3. "A man was stabbed Tuesday in the 2000 block of Hopewell Street during a fight."**

**Hopewell Street is few blocks from College of Santa Fe, numerous tourist hotels, artists' studios, restaurants and many other retail businesses and government offices.

Like most residential streets in Santa Fe Hopewell is poorly lit in accordance with the wishes of many "intellectual & sensitive" irrational Santa Fe transplants who insist on keeping street lighting to a minimum so as not to interfere with their view of the stars. Possibly, while present on one of these desirably darkend evening streets an occasional lightphobe will indeed see stars when knocked over the head by one of Santa Fe's many robbers conveniently sneaking about under cover of shadowy darkness.

4. "A laptop computer, a digital camera, three televisions, a rifle and a shotgun were stolen Wednesday from a residence on Cerro de Alamo."

5. "A laptop computer was stolen Tuesday from a residence near the intersection of Ute Lane and Old Las Vegas Highway."

6. "Two computers and $600 in cash were stolen Tuesday from a residence in the 2700 block of Calle Sierpe."

7. "Numerous firearms were stolen Tuesday from the 2700 block of Via Verda."

8. "A computer, jewelry and an i-Pod were stolen Tuesday from a residence in the 100 block of North El Rancho Roadafter an unknown person kicked in the front door."

NOTE: We must sincerely congratulate the Santa Fe New Mexican in surprising us by featuring a small article about the woman living near Santa Fe who was recently allegedly attacked by a "masked man" who broke into her bedroom while she was sleeping. Hopefully this is the beginning of public awareness in Santa Fe that people need to install alarms, stronger doors, acquire a large watchdog and/or surveillance cameras especially now with the seriously deteriorating economic situation and rapid escalation of the Mexican narco-border conflict which the Los Angeles Times recently described as rapidly deteriorating and progressing toward druglord/warlord Afghanistanization civil war in Mexico.

Let us note here that the majority of crimes in lovely Santa Fe[when they are solved] tend to have been committed largely people of many diverse cultural backgrounds and ethnic groups.

The latest concern, as the LA Times reports, is that the rapidly disintegrating scenario in south of the border is driving many refugees into El Paso and, as reported in today's New Mexican could soon result in "millions" of refugees fleeing across the border to escape the bloodbath to our south.

Due to its status as a "sanctuary city" for undocumented immigrants of all nations Santa Fe could soon experience a significant influx of desperate refugees. How will Santa Fe cope while the number of jobs both unskilled and skilled in New Mexico is steadily declining?

We are all truly tired of this woman and her reports, and concerned that she is not engaging in this forum but just lobbing these fright-o-grams into the forum without ever responding to her critics. Judging from the exhausted comments from many regular participants, I believe I am speaking for many of us. I know this is America and there are First Amendment rights which we all cherish, but do we have to give this person an indefinite platform to spout this stuff?

I would like to agree with the comment above. We're all in favor of allowing people to post whatever they feel is relevant to Santa Fe, but the poster in question is not engaging in conversation regarding crime statistics. She's simply posting excerpts of crime data and ranting against the Santa Fe New Mexican. Her posts are not adding value to the forum, nor does she revisit to answer questions posed.

Is there a way to block this user from the forum?

As I see it, the unique value of the forum is in sharing personal anecdotes and experiences with others who are curious about the area you're knowledgeable in . Due to their personal nature, the thoughts expressed here are valuable and unlike what you might find in traditional mass media or marketing. The information currently being posted is neither from personal experiences nor unique takes on information. It's simply regurgitating information copied verbatim from another media source with some blatant exaggerations and generalizations thrown in for effect.

I don't think negative information should be banned. The forum would be useless without it. I do think negative information should be used in discussion. Not shouted at readers through capitalized, muti-hued, drive-by diatribes. As they stand, the offending posts are about as useful as posting: "Don't go to New York City. Lots of people get hurt in New York City." Over and over and over again in that city's forum. It rates right up there with spamming for it's ability to dilute the value of the forum.

Hear! Hear! I've reported this spammer on several occasions and I'd encourage
others to do so as well.
