Prices of ground beef in NM?
Having recently moved to the state, I noticed one thing...the price of groceries is GREAT!!! I was stoked to make it to the cashier and pay $40 for groceries I would have paid $65 for back in the midwest. However..I have one question...why is the price of beef so much more here? My only obvious guess is that there are minimized water sources for cattle here...as well as healthy grazing land..which is why I see many fewer herds here..and thus the high price of ground beef? Thoughts anyone? I'd say its about +$1.50/pound here.

Fischer,
Since you are now amongst us, you might want to change your "Location" from Fargo ND to Espanola NM! Welcome!
As for the beef prices, I think they are actually cheaper here in Southern NM than they were back in NJ, where I am from. However, poultry is much higher here, at least in my limited food shopping experiences.

Alright, now that my location is updated!... I forgot all about that!
I'll have to look into the price of poultry here..I never did do that. I guess that just means that the price of beef was crazy reasonable in ND! Which would make sense as we were a farming/rancing state!

To give you an idea, a fair price for sirloin here is about 5 bucks a pound. In NJ, it would be closer to 8. I don't know what it's like in ND, perhaps 3 bucks a pound?

Not too sure. We always had our own meat of that sort from our ranch..we just made a habit of buying ground beef..which was like $3/pound.

I don't have anything to give as a reason why meat may be more expensive but, one thing you can do is order bison meat over the internet. My husband and did that a couple of times and the meat was pretty cheap. Of course, it depends on what farm you buy it from.

Hmmm. Good thinking. My family used to order through Ohama Steaks... I'll have to check into that. Might be easier if I had something other than a dinky apartment size freezer lol.
