Hi, I'm a freelance graphic designer/artist/author/poet. I'm currently living in Dallas and Tulsa. I have 15 years print graphic design work and a very professional portfolio.
I want to move into small efficiency apt to work, paint, eat, and sleep. It needs to be in safe area and quiet.
I've been checking the job market and don't see anything for graphic designers. I'm willing to work any job as long as it is quiet, safe, and I don't have to serve people. I've been a receptionist, secretary, administrative assistant, and type over 100 wpm.
I've read that many people live in Albuquerque and drive up to Santa Fe. Is Albuquerque worth it?
I'm recovering from life and just need a small space to live in and a simple job to survive on.
Any suggestions are welcome.

If you're looking for a simple way of life to help you rest and relax, I wouldn't advise the commute between Santa Fe and ABQ. I have lived in both places and like both cities, but the commute between the two isn't relaxing. You'd also be eating up a fair amount of your paycheck with commuting costs.
That said, Santa Fe is smaller and probably more laid back. Albuquerque is a bigger city. You might have more luck with a job in ABQ since there are (in theory) more jobs.

I currently know people who are commuting on the Railrunner, buses, car pools even flying up to Santa Fe or Los Alamos. I know some people who bought or are renting in Rio Rancho because it is a bit closer to Santa Fe.
Is it worth it? That's up to you.
You didn't say why you chose to try and move to Santa Fe.
If you want a place "between SF and Taos" I would say pick one or the other..no where between. And again..that is MY opinion and I'll let that be as it may.
As far as commuting..its up to the individual. I live in SF and my husband commutes to ABQ every day for work, and I commute the same distance north. We both spend about one tank work of gas each week..with our cars that about $25 at the price of gas right now. Again.. its up to you.. we really didn't have a choice in the matter but don't mind either.
I've been through Rio Rancho...seems like a very nice area if you choose ABQ instead of SF. And.. if I remember right.. taking the railrunner from SF to ABQ for work every day was roughly $1000/yr. double check that to be sure.
Anyway. I hope what I said was helpful. Again your commute time from ABQ to SF would depend on where you live in each city. It be nice to work/live on the edge of time as we do, cuts time by about 20 mins both ways if not more.
Hello,I've been wondering myself about moving to SF ... and would need an inexpensive place to live.Have you actually moved? Did you find something not so pricey? I may travel there this summer, depending on airfares, etc (I live in Orlando, FL).Thanks for your time,DianeDJS
