Cities within 40 min commute of downtown Santa Fe?
My husband is interview in Santa Fe and we are looking for housing options a bit further out to see if they are any more affordable than the $300k+ we've seen in Santa Fe. We've spoken to a realtor, but she wasn't very helpful in locating areas that are within a 40 min commute of downtown.
FWIW, we have a 6 yr old daughter we homeschool (and plan on continuing to homeschool), so schools are not an issue. We would like an area that is family-friendly, if possible.
Any help is appreciated!
Thank you!

Your search for a price under $300,000 anyplace within a 40 minute commute of Santa Fe is going to be challenging and difficult. I would suspect that is why your realtor could not be more helpful.
Anyone planning a move to Santa Fe must face the high cost of housing.
We will be building a home in Eldorado/Santa Fe later this year, and we are really crunching the numbers and downsizing our plans to be able to afford this move.
Good luck.....keep us informed about how it is going.

Thanks, Twoanda. Is it possible to get more square footage for your money if you go 40 min or so out of downtown? We have about 2400 sqft now in Wisconsin (with our finished basement) and would like to keep it around 2000 sqft. I'm assuming homes in that area don't have basements.

Rio Rancho
Northern Rio Rancho (Enchanted Hills area) is about 45 minutes from Santa Fe. Rio Rancho is situated north of Albuquerque and south of Santa Fe. While we we living there two of our immediate neighbors commuted to Santa Fe, so I don't think it is that bad of a commute. A 2000 sqft house is probably around $250-$270 there. The area is also safe and family friendly.

What about Cochiti Lake, Sandia Park or the Cedar Crest area?

You may try and search northern Rio Rancho. Also search Bernalillo and Placitas. Placitas will be more expensive.
Here is a link to search:

Lot of people travel from the Albuquerque area to Santa Fe and Los Alamos every day for work.
