Hotels in New York are expensive too, because it has many visitors. However New York is NEW YORK.

Default Santa Fe in June

Here's my hit . If your going to Santa Fe why not stay in the middle of it all . My first hit of Santa Fe was that I did not like it (living in Taos at the time ). Once I stayed on the Plaza I got what it was about . It is touristy but you can also meet locals as you sit on the Plaza enjoying the history of what it was back in the days. Its architecture is what its about .Why stay on Cerillos and be assaulted by a 4-6 lane roadway everytime you walk out your door? Its not for me , I would spend the extra money or stay someplace else where there is serene landscape to gaze upon . Bishops Lodge , 10,000 Waves , even as far as Ojo Caliente. To me if your not within walking distance, you'll have to drive anyway-pick something that gives you what New Mexico is about - Land Of Enchantment ! It truly is !

I guess it depends how much money you want to spend and where you want to spend it.

I have no problem with anyone who wants to stay near the Plaza but the prices are very high. Tourists staying at the expensive hotels help the SF economy and that's cool.

My post was only to say that there are options for people like my husband and I, who really cannot afford the high prices at the hotels, but can stay on Cerrillos for a fraction of the cost.

I can still spend a whole lot of time hanging out around the Plaza ... and all the money I save on a place to sleep can be spent on FOOD and SHOPPING.

We all have our own priorities....Santa Fe really can accomodate them.

I'll be visitng Santa Fe next week and I'll be staying a El Paradero, a conveniently located B & B and at a price that I consider reasonable. I wouldn't spend a lot of money in a luxurious downtown hotel, since Santa Fe is relatively small and nothing is too far away. If I had the money and the desire to indulge in a luxurious hotel, I would do it in Paris or New York, never in Santa Fe. Santa Fe is an interesting city but its fame has been blown out of proportion by the media and by skillful marketing. There is a old saying: "not everything that shines is gold". Thomas Kinkaid makes millions of dollars selling prints of his paintings, but in respectable artistic circles he is considered "mediocre" but with a very good business vein.

Thank you. El Paradero is booked for the month of June. Inn of the Governors sounds good too. That's where I'll stay. I don't have a lot of money, and visiting Santa Fe sound very good to me.
