Default 64 Sex Offenders Living in Santa Fe

I just moved to the Santa Fe area and found out this number. Research a little more I found out that in my ZIP code there are 16 of these individual. With a little more research I found one of these individuals live two doors from me (I can see his house out my kitchen door). I have a young child, my lease is for another eight months. When leasing this place, the landlord didn't mention this at all, (it makes me wonder why he doesn't live here anymore). Is there any website to go to to find out what the restrictions are for this person and what I can do to protect my family. I worry about my daughter with scum living 100 feet from me.

I don't know if this will help, but in Arizona we can locate them by zip code along with names, addresses, pictures and the specific crime(s). There are way more than we ever thought.

We helped to run the local Little League for 10 years and we had to watch out for all the kids in the league (over 300) and warn the parents. It is a scary thing. We mapped out all the offenders and provide the information to the parents.

Hopefully NM has something similar. I not sure if the landlord is required to let you know. Contact the local authorities for more information on local laws and enforcement. They receive these calls all the time.

I live in Austin TX and there are 105 in my zip code. None of them live particularly close to my neighborhood... also, like JDTH mentioned, in the listing you can click on each name and see all their info: their photo, their offense, how much time they served.... The one who lives closest to me served 6 months for indecent exposure and then another 1 year for indecent exposure. He is listed as 'risk level: moderate'. Another thing to think about, no matter where you choose to live, even if there are no sex offenders when you move there, one could move in at any time so check those listings periodically. Best of luck!

I am a landlord which has been renting out a residence in Albuquerque for 10 years and to be honest it never occurred to me to check the area where my rental is located.....

The New Mexico Sex Offender Webpage can show you the entire state, city, county, by zipcode etc and can show you a map of where they live.

They have pictures and details of the individual and there are some info pages on the site. For example there is a free service that will notify individuals, via e-mail, when a sexual offender moves within a specified radius of any address the individual is concerned about. Up to three addresses can be specified per e-mail account. This will inform you when an offender moves near your residence, school, church, relative's house, etc... The radius is set per address as 1, 3, or 5 miles. There are some links that may help you answer other questions you might have.

Please, keep in mind that a sex offender doesn't necessarily mean a person is *dangerous*. Guy is 18, girl is 17 Mom and Dad don't like the relationship- BAM! Statutory rape and a new sex offender is added to the list. Or, in the case of a friend's grandson, sexting (sex texting) an underaged girl got him arrested, fine and imprisoned. It was a mutual thing, they both exchanged photos and text, but because she was under 18, he was the one punished when the girl lost the phone in a grounding and Mom went through it.
I'm not saying any of it is right, I'm just saying that just because someone is a registered sex offender that doesn't mean you should always fear them-look at their bio, like Maliades says.

Thanks for the reply. I have been to many websites and can't find out any more information about what his restrictions might be. He was in his 60s and she was under 10. I guess the best thing for me to do is to verify with the local officials to find out what he can and can't do. Once again thanks.

In my opinion, hardened criminals should be tattooed in a visible place (forehead??), with easy to read word/s depicting what they are. For example, "Child Molester" , "Rapist" , etc.

This would be an inexpensive and easy way for citizens to collectively monitor these individuals.

Triple R offers some good advice. Before we apply a hot branding iron to the foreheads of these degenerates (not a bad idea actually), let's make sure the punishment fits the crime. Like RRR says, there are some relatively normal behaviors between teenagers (ah, the good old days) that can ruin a reputation for a lifetime - and that just ain't right. Now as for those rapists and child molesters - branding's too good for them in my book.

It is not just teenagers. Some places do some difficult to understand things. A guy gets drunk and takes a whiz outside the bar -- arrested, convicted for indecent exposure. A sex offender.

So I agree, look at the bio if you can.

Have you the Police Department or the local court administration? They should have at least one specialist who knows something about this?
