International Folk Market in Santa Fe - I'm going! Has anyone been?
I have never been to the International Folk Art Market but I think I will check it out this summer! Has anyone been to it? How were the prices? How was the food? I see it is only $5 on Sunday but wondering if opening day might be better for the music, etc? Hope to see some beautiful hand-crafted items and hopefully pick up a textile or two, gotta start saving my money now! Looks like a great time!

Well, I'll update with a full report after I attend, along with photos! Doesn't sound like many people have been to it yet, but it is suppose to be the largest folk art market in the region!

Very much looking forward to this. My son is Uzbek and there is so little opportunity to expose him to anything relating to his culture so the artisans from Uzbekistan will be of special interest to us. I think it would be interesting to any age group although I do not know how much information is available about the specific cultures represented there.

I never get to go to this, but as I look at the list I see a number of top quality Mexican folk artists that I buy from...in some cases for many, many years. The Aguilar sisters for example.
Just judging by that fact I would recommend attending this if you love folk art. I know my old friend Victor Vasquez Davila will be bringing a great collection of Oaxaca wood carvings, sometimes called alebrijes, because I talked to him about this show a month ago when I was in Oaxaca. Victor is a craftsman and a collector, so he'll be bringing things that you can't possibly see without visiting the Oaxaca carving villages, and even THEN you wouldn't be able to find half of these people.
The lineup looks like a top quality mix of weavers, potters, metalsmiths, jewelers, sculptors and so many others. I wish I could go...but will be in the Midwest working then

I volunteered at the Market last year (I was the grumpy guy in the parking lot downtown). I can recommend it, not just for the free t-shirt..., because it's a fun group and it gives you free entry to the market as often as you like.

This market was great. Prices were reasonable and lots of great folks to talk with. You'll love it.
