Default Snow machining (mobiling) in the Santa Fe area

Is snow machining a popular winter activity in the area? Are there trails and/or open ground? If so, is it quite limited or do you consider it wide open? Can a group ride all day in most any direction? If so, where would this be? Thank you.

Hey-snow machining- spoken like a real Alaskan! It's nice to see another Anchorage-ite here in New Mexico.

I have lived here quite some time, and have never seen a snowmobile out in the forest, in the wilderness or even being towed behind a vehicle. I have seen some snowmobiling done up in southern Colorado near Wolf Creek Pass. This is the desert, and snow is not really something that occurs except up in the high altitudes.

Agreed. Even if there were snow on the ground, some of public land doesn't allow motorized vehicles because it is somewhat fragile. It is arid, with sparse vegetation and tends to erode even without motorized vehicles.

There's a lot of snowmobiling around Chama. The other popular place I know of that's not too far is the White Mountains in AZ.
