I noticed that most of the homes have the screened in pools. But what if you have a dog? Where do they go? Does anyone fence outside the screened in area? are fences allowed?
Help! *thanks*

yes you can fence your yard but you need to check witht he county and HOA for restrictions.

i think you will find it is illegal to allow an unleashed dog off your property

what i've noticed is many developments only allow small dogs and i think alot of people get invisible fence.

i will be renting a house with a huge side yard that's unfenced - would make my doggie life 10000x easier if it had a fence!!

The screened pool enclosures are basically to keep the bugs and leaves out, for the most part. Like Sunshine pointed out many communities have rules on fences. Some say you can't have them at all. Some say the can only be a certain height. Some say the have to be made out of a certain material.

Often homes that back up to a golf course or lake have this restriction so you're not blocking someone else's view.

One way to get an idea is to drive around the neighborhood. If you don't see any fences, you probably can't have one. If they are all a certain height, that's probably due to the restrictions in that community. Of course, you would want to verify this with the HOA rules but that's a pretty good way to determine this.

If you want a fenced yard for your pet, really check it out prior to purchase. If it's a HOA, you will already know if fencing is allowed by what you see in the development. If you see zero lot lines, you can pretty much take it that fencing is out. Don't even bet on a run, either....mom sold her house in Bradenton earlier this year where fencing was allowed & got into a HOA on the east coast where she thought she had it down pat so she could build a run for her dog but they said no afterwards. My advice, get it in writing at the very least.

When we were looking a fenced yard was important to us for our daughter-and our future dog someday. We found that many of the nicer areas either don't allow fencing, or they allow only a certain kind so there is some conformity. I agree that there is the option of an invisible fence. If you mention where you are looking SoFlgal, and I --and others can share what we know about that area..we ended up buying where they do allow a black link fence only which was fine with us.

In MD, we have an invisible fence, and it works great. My dog tests the perimeter every day. He lives in the zone where he gets warning beeps. He stays in the yard, but he gets zapped every day as well. He won't give up. He challenges the authority of the fence to keep him in the yard every time he goes out. And, he barks at it all the time. He runs along the fence when people walk by, and doesn't bark at them. He'll stand by him self, and jump and bounce, and pounce barking at nothing, of course he is really barking at the fence. It is quite amusing watching him.

In FL, we have chain link fence, and our neighbors have dogs. He runs up and down the line of the fence trying to play with them. They bark some times, he doesn't bark at them, they always bark at him. He's funny. He really only barks at our invisible fence up here.

They work well, and are far less expensive to put in than a chain link or wooden fence.

Hey Hey Hey!! Dont start giving Oobie, Lady, Gypsychic, Mermaid, Beachymom, and SoFLGal any ideas about me and electrical shocking devices! I'm not sure I could handle that much stimulation. Although . . . . . . .

No everywhere, you'll find. Outside the HOA run gated communities you'll see fences everywhere. Because of our needs we have to avoid these communities. Some are so restrictive you can't even hang a quilt out to air or grow a small vegetable garden. They're definitely not for outdoorsy people unless you leave the community for your outdoor activities. We want a fence for privacy and to keep stray animals off our property. There's something for everyone out there.
