Hopefully the storm that will be in the gulf doesn't bring us rain for you although our grass needs it! but for sure hit Siesta beach and the Siesta village area! LWR is a Great area you may just never leave that area. Good luck!

Obviously, it's all a matter of style and personal preference. I didn't like Lakewood Ranch or concept. Wow, didn't realize anything in SRQ had defective drywall problems so glad mentioned. I'm more of a "natural, organic" type with big, old trees and LWR seemed too artificial/cookie cutter. Community like The Meadows was closer to my style.

Agree on places to see and best beaches. I also loved the Longboat Key drive and to end at Anna Maria Island.

When you are in Lakewood Ranch, make sure you try one of the breakfast restaurants:First Watch (my fav), Broken Egg (try thr cheese hash browns) or Country Pancake House (Never tried the one there but the one near me had unbelievable pancakes).Just hop on I 75 south and get off at Clark and take that west to Siesta Key- just a 20-25 min drive. Have a great time.

Btw I also love the set-up in the Meadows.

Thanks for the shout out. I like Lakewood, but much of the quaint shopping areas are half empty! =(. That shocked me! It's because of the economy obviously, but it's sad to see. Lots of nice golf course communities , lie University Park because it's a little more established.

Going to look around Sarasota today. Hopefully there will be more people around. It sure is dead here...

Remember that you are here during the slowest part of the year. Winter is much different, and you'll find lots more people here (two to three times more in some areas). After a few years you'll lean to appreciate the off season, unless of course you're income depends upon the snow birds.
