Looking for suggestions or past experiences. We have done Ophelia's the last 2 years, but feel it has lost its luster since ownership change.

Love to hear some other ideas as I have been finding most places down here don't have a special menu for this night.

Just get some good pizza and a few beers at home...everything else you know is going to suck and be overpriced

I think most people who work in restaurants would want to be home on Christmas Eve -

Christmas Eve is bustling down here, what with all the snowbirds and people without their families here. It's not like up north where restaurants are half-empty that night. I like to go to Bonefish Grill on Christmas Eve....their food's consistently good, and they have a Winter White Cosmopolitan that's yummy.

Now on Christmas, you don't have as much of a selection of restaurants, or maybe a limited menu.

Since Christmas Eve is not technically a holiday, most restaurants are open for business as usual, with no special menu, but they may close a bit early.

Christmas Day, openings are limited and those that are may have a holiday menu.

Everyone wants to be home CE ~ stay home & cook! And as local ~ restaurants have already changed menue pricing in anticipation of the 2017-2018 Season, up, up, up & away ~ the locals are staying in or hitting up the off the beaten path places not mentioned here.

For a number of years, from 1966 (two years before we moved to Venice) up into the early-1970's, our family (my parents, maternal grandparents, brother, and I) would eat Christmas Eve dinner at the old Oyster Bar in Sarasota. It used to be on South Trail about a mile south of Stickney Point. It used to be known as "The Original Oyster Bar". There was one in St Petersburg, also - on 34th St S just north of 54th Ave.

I left Sarasota in 1993 and the Oyster Bar hasn't been there for years. So, sorry...I can't help you. But good luck & Merry Christmas!
