ok my other post was deleted(MAKES ME ANGRY).

But i'm looking for great places for organic fresh foods in Bradenton. Not publix. I know there are some local fruit stands but are they organic? I know about the online service. I just want something I can drive up to when I want and not have to order.

There is a Whole Foods in Sarasota which is not too far. They carry mostly organic fruits and veggies.

What about Fresh Market on University(near Kohls)? I haven't shopped there yet but assume it must have organic

Yes, Fresh Market does carry nice organic stuff (along with conventional) and Super Target has a few organic selections as well. These stores are pretty close to each other so it is very convenient.

There are four Good Earth Natural Food stores in Bradenton. They have an organic fruit and vegetable section in these stores. We shopped at the Lakewood Ranch store several times while we were snowbirds in the area last winter. Do a google search on the store name and you easily find their website.

We also like the local hydroponic farms when their produce is in season. Their produce is mostly grown organically. We made a weekly visit to one in Ruskin and we also visited one 10 miles for so east of Bradenton. I found these at http://www.pickyourown.org/FL.htm.

Thanks for the "pick you own" site. I think my kids might like to go on that trip.

Pretty slim pickens right now for locally grown chemical free produce right now, farmers are planting for fall crops. Greens on the Gro farm on Ellenton-gillette Road in Palmetto still has a few greens. asian spinaches, and herbs, but they too are replanting for fall. Hydroharvest farm in Ruskin is getting ready to plant strawberries, and has a website with what produce they have available www.hydropharvestfarms.com, Jessica's in Sarasota is open with all organic produce open on Friday and Saturdays, but nothing they grow, its too early. www.jessicasorganicfarm.com Two vendors at the Sarasota Downtown Farmers Market sell organic produce. Peter Burkhard of Natures partner and My Mothers Garden, on Saturdays. If you go to Ruskin and check out Hydroharvest, you should check out A new local market that has opened in Wimauma, specializing in local and organic food called Mabrys Market. you can find them on facebook. The market is open 6 days a week from 10- 5. Monday thru Saturday. Florida State College is planning a Farmers Market on Thursdays on campus starting in September and. The Bradenton Downtown Farmers Market is planning on opening Saturdays in October. Another web site to check out local food is www.localharvest.org, put in your zip code, and even closer the Sarasota County extension office has a http://sarasota.extension.ufl.edu/AG/localfoodguide.pdf list of local growers and producers.
When local harvests get a little closer, you will find a myriad of choices. So I guess until it becomes a little cooler, locally grown chemical free food will be far and few between!
But then you may just be looking for organic food grown somewhere else, so the chain stores will probably be your best bet.

Oh, let the little ones enjoy their little power trips. Come on!

There exists an unexplainable HATRED for posts about vegetables, trust me. Someone must have been force-fed peas as a child.

I am no trouble-maker, but I am beginning to find it humorous.
