Hi!

My husband has decided he wants to move to Florida - his doctor says it would be better for his allergies. That would make me happier too. Does anybody have any suggestions where he should start looking for a job in the Sarasota/Venice area? Any particular companies or headhunters that would help him? He is a Project Manager for a major company with 15 years experience from programmer to Manager. His teams work with EDI/e-commerce, ERP, Oracle and many other things that make no sense to me. Any other suggestions are most welcome. Thanks!!

PS - any thoughts about moving to Venice with 2 young (7&9 yo) would also be appreciated.

Hi Funseeker, I was just curious what state you live in. I didn't realize that Fla would be a good place for people with allergies. I've always heard the desert is what will help.

Funseeker,

I just had family return to Texas after living in Venice for 2 years. They also thought that their allergies would be better but they were not. There are just different things blooming there than here that they were allergic to. They still got all of the sinus infections, bronchitis, etc while in Florida that they did here. But everyone is allergic to different things...

This was two families that went there and both came back. One has a small child (now 7). In the neighborhood they lived in, very new, there were not many kids at all. There was one other small child on their block and that was it. Most of the people were retired and the HOA was not very "kind" towards kids. Their son went to private school so I really don't know about the school system. They loved the beaches in that area but that was about it.

I had terrible allergies up north and since we moved to SW Florida I have been much much better. Once in a while I get a sneezing attack but not that often. We are in Charlotte County near the harbor and I have been fine.
As far as jobs down here, check the local papers on line. You can check the Sun-herald.com for these areas.

Default allergies

These posts just reminded me of something. One of our friends went to Fla. for her sister's wedding. Her two children have allergy problems here in SD, which is quite unusual. When they got to Fla., they didn't even have to take their meds until they were about 300 miles from home. I personally don't have allergies in SD, and have never had a problem while visiting in Fla. We went to Myrtle Beach a year ago and I ended up being so sick from allergies that I had to spend the last day of our vacation in bed. Guess we're all just allergic to different things.

It all depends on what each individual is allergic to. We are all individuals with individual allergies.

True. I have mold allergies. They were bad in Florida.

As far as the real question, I lived one town south of Venice. I found that there were a tremendous amount of retirees, although it is beginning to change. Look more towards Nokomis for established family areas. Not much for the kids to do down that direction. North Port has a skate park and a Boys & Girls Club, but that is about it.

Sarasota/Bradenton will have more options.

You can even try where we are in Punta Gorda. We are between Sarasota and Ft. Myers. Not far from anything. 2 hours to Orlando, 2 hours to the East Coast/Ft. Lauderdale, two hours to Tampa. We are selling here because we miss the family up north. Bet I will be sneezing again too LOL
