I have been here for almost 2 months (it is even better than I thought it would be!) and I haven't seen a single coney island. Any chance I will?

I lived 2 miles from Coney Island for 40 years and I worked there for 18 years. I never heard of a 'Coney Island' and hot dogs did not come with chilli or onions.

The original birthplace of the hot dog is 'Nathan's' established 1911 on the corner of Surf Ave and Stillwell Ave. You get a beef hot dog [kosher] in a bun. Customer applies mustard. There are no chili or onion condiments available. Calling a hot dog with chili a 'coney island' is like Domino's and Pizza Hut calling their pizza 'N.Y.style'.

In Ohio, you can get hot dogs with chili and cheese and they call them "Coneys." You can find these Coneys at Skyline Chili Restaurants or Gold Star Restaurants. There is a Skyline Chili in Clearwater - that's the closest one I know of. It's famous in the Cincinnati Ohio area. We just made homemade coneys tonight, family came in from Ohio and brought us several cans of Skyline chili. Yum-o!
