Default Bobarino's on Dearborn St., Englewood

I do'nt know about Sarasota, for NY style pizza, but I do know that Bobarino's on Dearborn St. in Englewood has got THE BEST New York style pizza this side of New York. I suggest you or anyone in Sarasota make the trip down to see if I'm lying, and while your at it , order the garlic knots with mozzarella and marinara sauce(to die for!) I am from NY trust me

There is no NY Style pizza in Sarasota. Period. Forget it. No way. Nuh-uh. Nope. Doesn't exist. They ain't got it. Hell no.

.

Just as Meatloaf says "You took the words right out of my mouth". Where the hell is there a real good pizza down in the area anyways? I came across a few good places but I mean it seems like this whole NY Style pizza thing has got old. None have really been superb ntm, many have sprawled out to Bradenton area and seem not too exceptionally different from anything else in Sarasota. Its not like a new little Italy is coming at all. I mean if this pizza is what its like in NY.. then Boston owns it hands down! They mostly seem like cookie cutter type places where they seem to use the same crust, same kind of sauce or a sweeter less desirable sauce. Most pizza places that are "NY style" here all seem to taste very similar. I see no uniqueness at all. I had better pizza in Pennsylvania sometimes. Its not that its horrible, its just not "that good" by any stretch. Its arrogant to proclaim it NY pizza or East coast style like its really the best thing in town. I mean why not just make your own style pizza and not try to be like everyone else? I have yet to come across a good deep dish pizza either. Joey D's doesn't cut it for Chicago style either. I would say for pizza, one of the best I've had was Notolis on SR 64 Bradenton. Patellinis might even be one of the better ones too. Il Panificio is, but too damn expensive.

A native Nyer friend told us that Cafe Amalfi has good NY style pizza. We're going to check it out tonight. Also many people recommended Il Panificio.

I just had that pizza recently. Crust is good.. sauce loses. Its too sweet.

Domino's doesn't even count; I agree, sauce on cardboard.

I just wish for once & all that people would realize you're not going to get NY food in Florida.

I mean at most places I got pizza here in FL, it doesnt have the same feel as having a pizza up north. It is the water I believe honestly. FL and good pizza just don't go good together. Comfort food down here is BBQ for a good reason or pork, sweet potatoes, pull beef, hog shanks. This is no place for pizza!! Most italian food is not impressive here at all. I don't care who comes from where. Just because it says NY style does not mean its gonna be good!. If anything they arent doing their own thing and just copying everyone else. Thats what it feels like trying to get good pizza here. Even a place in downtown Ybor was mediocre as hell. A place to claim good NY style pizza too. I had better pizza in Pennsylvania most of the time. Im not lying and not the immediate Philly area either. Try Johnstown area LOL. Even a place there that made polish pizza was better than the stuff here. I swear to god.

However, I have never had Ricos in GG before. I tried another ricos. Oh wait.. I think I had a decent slice of pizza on Stickey point rd somewhere. I forget the name of the place. It was right next to a classy beer bar though not too far from S Tamiami Trail.

See, I knew something was up. If this is what NY pizza is really like, then Boston owns it any day of the week. I am hoping the "Its the water" thing is true because it be a damn shame if NY pizza was all like this stuff. I don't want to say crap because its not all swill, just extremely overhyped and overpriced.

I've heard the "it's the water" suggestion before, actually while watching a special about pizza on Food Network. I've never been to NYC, so someday I'd like to experience this huge difference. But if that's all it is, why doesn't some restaurant start shipping some NYC tap water down here to use in their pizza? Why not? Restaurants order other ingredients from all over the country. As many people as there are searching for a true 'NY-style' pizza, it seems some place could make a killing coming up with a true replica.

Seriously though, there are a lot of New Yorkers down here. Is there not one transplant who can replicate what they made up in NYC? What's going on here?

My flight lands in SRQ about 5:00 tomorrow.
I'll be there to sample your pizza.

I plan to watch the Phillies beat up on the Giants tomorrow, and a pizza and a beer is good for watching a ballgame.

I'm coming down on Thanksgiving on Southwest. If someone wants me to bring down a suitcase of Lake Ontario water from Buffalo, NY I can.

Hey buddy you can leave the Lake Ontario water(Drank that my whole life) but how about a gallon of Western New York apple cider!! We like it with rum and a little dash of cinnamon ,but nobody in SWF sells a decent tasting cider! (imagine sugar-water with absolutely no flavor of apples) and maybe a case of Blue Light to bring back some memories!! We did find a place that has great wings and has a 25cent wing nite on wednesdays, bring the affore-mentioned items and we will treat you to wing - nite here in sunny Englewood,or the great NY style pizza I mentioned in this thread, that the other people seem to be ignoring for some reason !?
