My husband & I are seriously considering the Punta Gorda area for retirement. I have been researching and reading this wonderful forum for information and would like to know what is thought of Burnt Store Meadows as a good relocation for retirement. My husband is already retired (65) but I have a couple of more years of working here in NJ but with the prices being lower on homes we are thinking of buying this year. We definitely want to come to the southwest part of FL so any help will be greatly appreciated as we will be coming down this spring to check the areas out.

Located in the heart of western Charlotte County, just south of historic downtown Punta Gorda, the Burnt Store Meadows is a green space friendly community consisting of newer homes on larger home sites. As to location, this home is only 2.5 miles from Interstate 75, 5 miles to historic downtown Punta Gorda, 33 miles to SW Florida International Airport and a 45 minute drive to the Gulf Beaches.

Burnt Store Meadows offers a Property Owners Association that is elected by the property owners. The Board conducts monthly meetings and has an annual dinner business meeting in October. The current annual dues are $141 per year. There is also a Neighborhood Watch program in effect within the community.

Homes are running from $140k-$280k. Here is the website for BSM: Burnt Store Meadows - Deed Restrcited Community, Punta Gorda, Florida

Burnt Store Rd is being widened and improved from U.S. 41 at Home Depot to just south of Burnt Store Meadows.
There is only one main road [Royal Poinciana] going east-west thru BSM from Burnt Store Rd to U.S. 41 that everyone in the subdivision uses for entry/exit.
You may also want to look at Seminole Lakes, just north of BSM.

thanks SoFlGal & d4g4m. I know southwest FL is for us but maybe BSM is too far from the beach ? My husband is from Italy and would like to be close to the beach enough to either use a bike or vespa to get there. We would be looking for a house under $200,000, doesn't matter if it needs fixing as he can do almost anything in a house.

Maybe south Venice might be a better option for you. It's 10 minutes from the beach and south Venice has a private ferry that goes to their own little beach. Here more about that area: South Venice Beach
