I have not bought from there but Petlands have a horrible reputation for buying from puppy mills and selling over priced not so healthy animals. If you haven't purchased yet please don't. Supporting puppy mills and possibly getting an unhealthy animal is what you will be doing.

Please if you want a friend for life and want to help save a life, think about adopting from a rescue shelter. That way you will get a wonderful companion AND help reduce the numbers being euthanised un neccesarily.

Although I agree with the pound puppy comments, I don't see any problem with buying from a store that doesn't buy from mills. Those dogs need owners, too.

I'm sorry but I can't understand why anyone would buy a dog from a pet store. Please adopt from a shelter or at the very least, buy from a reputable breeder. Sure, all those little pups look so sad & needing of a home when you see them in those plexiglass cubes BUT as soon as one is sold, another one replaces it. It just perpetuates the cycle of puppy mills... I have friends who bought "designer dogs" (i.e. mutts) from a local pet store. Both of them have deformities & they spent over 1K for these dogs! Just dumb....

Finding pet stores that don't buy from puppy mills could prove quite difficult.

Buying from reputable breeders or the shelters IMO is the way to go. Our current dog, a Golden Retriever, we got from a breeder and has to be the best dog we have ever had and is healthy as can be.

I have to say though most of the dogs I got from the shelters were healthy animals except for my last one, he was dealt a bad hand and died way too young. There are no guarantees either way but supporting puppy mills is just against what I believe in.
