Just out of curiosity, does anyone know, (or know how to find out) how many students enter a school each year that are new? By new, I mean either from another district or out of the area completly. I would like to reassure my kids they will not be the only "new" kids in school

I know that it's not the data that you were hoping to see, but the very last chart on the .pdf linked below shows the total enrollment change for the 2010-2011 year over the 2009-2010 year for all Sarasota County Schools. It actually shows a net drop in enrollment.

It does show that a large number of students are moving to charter schools, so if that is an option then they certainly won't be alone.

Trust me. There are new kids every year. Lots of people move in and out of town and switch to different schools.

My kids went to Pine View (a specialized school) for many years and even though it is a specialized school there were always a handful of new kids in the class. I'm assuming there would be even more in the "regular" public schools.

If you wanted more specific number you could always call the school board: Sarasota County Schools, Home They are usually most helpful whenever I've had to call.

Yeah that's true! But then you pretty much see the same kids each year with the exception of the handful of new ones. There are quite a few changes going into middle and high though.
