I am looking to have a well drilled in order to use ground water to water my lawn. Guest Well Drilling seems to have decent pricing - $3500. Any feedback on them, or recommendations for others in the Sarasota area?

Don't know about contractors in that area, but the price seems high. How deep are they going for $3500? You should go as deep as possible to get the best water. The higher water tables generally smell more like sulfer and is harder water, so it will stain your walkways, driveway, house, etc... My neighbor had a new irrigation well put in 2 yrs ago. I think they went down like 200ft. If I remember right, I think he paid around $1700.

That price does not seem out of line. Three years ago I inquired about it to Manatee County, and they told me the usual cost for an irrigation well was about $5,000.

HH - those figures don't sound right, and 200 feet seems WAY too deep for a well in these parts. My wells in Dade City (drinking wells) were nowhere near that deep and we were on a hill.

I think most well drillers quote a base price for the first so many feet then a price per foot afterward. Then of course there is the cost of pump (above-ground or submersible), and anything else you are putting in.

I just checked with the neighbor. He dug out the invoice. 200ft is correct, and it was $1800. Of course they got water MUCH shallower than 200ft, but the "good" water is deeper.

In that case, if I were drilling a well I would definitely go with that co!

My neighbor flew up to Conn yesterday for 2 weeks. I'll email or call him today for the Co. name and DM it to you both.
