Freedom Boat Club requires that you take boating lessons from them before you are able to take boats out alone. You can go out with a Captain until you feel comfortable. As I said, it is manditory.

It is about $5,500 initiation fee and about $199 a month. They have 6 month memberships and they also have Mon-Thurs memberships.

You will log on and be able to make reservations at any one of their locations. You also get to pick the boat. Boats are available from 8am-5pm but special occasions you can reserve one for a weekend, etc.

They maintain the boats, you only pay for the fuel and any damage. Also you have to tip the dock master. But you drive up, get your boat, go over an inspection with the dock master and off you go. When you return it, you fuel it, they clean it.

We are members and enjoy it. No regrets.

We were with Freedom Boat Club for about a year. Got caught in a storm, boat unavoidably went aground with the storm coming in. Had to anchor it, leave it there overnight and they called Tow Boat to bring it back in the next morning. Got hit with over $1000 bill for the tow. My only recommendation is that you don't get rid of your Tow Boat membership. Tried to fight it legally, but they have their bases covered. No way out. It would wind up costing us more to go through an "arbitration" which is in the contract. Incidentally, the arbitration may have went either way, but when considering it is the businesses that support the arbitration, we felt the odds were against us (an it would have cost us an additional $700 to go this route. We loved the club for the most part, but the aggravation and the way the company handled it was enough for us to give up the $5k membership fee.
Incidentally, the same rules do NOT apply to all franchises.
