Hi, I lived in Lakewood Ranch about 5 years ago. I had a daughter in Nolan and LRHS. Since then I moved to PA and have a 3 yr old son with autism. I would love to move back to Lakewood Ranch, but am wondering what the autism services are like in the schools there. We have very good services here in PA, and all of his therapies and doctors visits are covered by his health insurance. I would love to hear from someone who has a special needs child in the area there. Thanks.

My wife was a one-on-one aide to an autistic kindergarten-aged child at McNeal a few years ago. She was paid by the school system under a different budget line but school budgets have become so tight since then that I don't know if they can afford to do that anymore. You might be better of contacting the school board directly so you can provide and receive more specific information. As you probably know, there is an entire spectrum of autism and you might as well go right to the horse's mouth. You can call them at 941-708-8770.

By the way, I don't know if they were open when you were here but Pinnacle Academy Pinnacle Academy is located just north of McNeal on Lorraine Rd. and they are a private school that specializes in educating autistic kids and kids with related behavioral challenges.

Hi Sak,

My son is five and attends Pinnacle Academy in LWR. We have not had any public school experience yet and even though he is ready to be mainstreamed for kindergarten next year, I am not sure I want him in the Sarasota public school system. We'll make up our mind after new year's. In any case, please feel free to PM me about Pinnacle, or autism resources in the area. I do know a handful of people who's children will be transitioning out of Pinnacle next year and into McNeal Elementary in LWR which is coincidentally right next door.
I hear wonderful things about McNeal.
