I've been trying to look into what kind of permits or certifications that may be needed for selling food goods at farmer's markets or other venues and am coming up short. Does anyone here have experience or knowledge with that? I know about the Florida cottage foods bill they just enacted but am looking to do something beyond that. The most I was able to find was permits for mobile food units, hot dog carts or caterers. My situation would likely be preparing in a commercial kitchen and transporting to the venue until funds for a mobile unit become available.

From reading into it, I can only assume you need the appropriate permits to do this? Any further information is greatly appreciated!

Have you tried contacting the farmer's market downtown? They might be able to answer your questions.

I've recently browsed their site but it seems that most food vendors have local store-fronts, which would isn't really the same situation.

Well, there is a place on that site for vendors to inquire - why don't you just ask them?

do you want to sell food that was prepared off site?
like BBQ sauce that is home-made and bottled?
or like baked goods?
or something like homemade cheeses that would be fresh?

and like others said I think your best option is to call the Farmer's Market or the City Health Dept of Sarasota and see if someone can point you in the right direction

Like I said in my original post, I already know about the cottage foods and wanted to go beyond that. For example, pickles or kraut isn't allowable with that. So that's my point of asking what type of permit is needed for anything other than what's listed on the cottage foods list.

I did contact the farmer's market via email but yet to hear anything back. I work two jobs and it leaves me with little time to sit down and make phone calls, so I was hoping someone had personal experience or knows someone who knows someone, etc etc.

But thanks for trying.

If you find anything please post it. I would be interested as well. BTW, where is the farmers market and what kind of food is there?

Unfortunately I never heard anything back so I have yet to find out. I'll have to start researching myself it seems.

If you click on the link that Gypsychic posted, it will give you all the information on the farmer's market.

There is also one in Philippi Creek and downtown Bradenton but have not been to either yet.

Please read a few posts up. Someone already linked this exact link and I already said that I knew about this prior to asking my initial question.
