I just got a rough quote of 20,000 on the phone from fpl. That is for a 400 foot distance from the house near my lot that has a pole to bring power to me. It requires three poles, line, transformer and ect. That house was built long ago and has no connect charge. That seems really high to me. I thought it should run about 5,000 to 7,000. At that rate per foot it comes to $200,000 a mile. Has anyone had high quotes like this for power to be brought such a short distance to a lot??

14 years ago I was interested in a lot on a street in North Port with no electric that was off Cranberry. The distance to the lot from the closest electric on Cranberry was about .6 mi. They wanted $24,000 The lot was $4000 and on a canal.
I was told [back then] that they string electric for free if a lot is within two lots of a pole with a transformer.
It's controlled development of the area. The city and FPL don't want anymore sprawl. There are sections like 46, 47, 48 that will never have electric. Yet people continue to pay propertry taxes on lots that they can never build.

At that rate mine should be about 4,000 to 5,000. Even if you double it it would be 10,000. That is what I thought it would be about 10,000 at the worst. The same as the sewer hookup cost. I think someone is really over charging. They wonder why no one wants to build. I guess I will pay 300.00 to have them give me a hard quote and hope I am right about the cost for the short run.

SELL the lot! You will NEVER recoup that money if you build.

It took 5 years for the cable company to run the line to our house when it was only two houses away. Our next door neighbor and us were the only two people on the entire street that didn't have cable. We both have satellite. Our houses were built in 2006 and after several requests they finally put it in a couple of months ago at no charge to us. But neither of us switched. We live in Port Charlotte.

Good luck with the building process.

Default hook-up

have someone directional bore a duct underground to the closest pole, you may have to buy the wire and that should solve your problem directional bore 7.00 to 10.00 per foot. pipe 3" or 4" poly (no joints) 2.80 to 3.70 per foot cost of wire depends on amperage draw ,single phase or multi phase. doing it this way is a lot cheaper then 20000.00

41 mag. Thanks. Sounds interesting.Do you know anyone that does this that I could call? Funny I have a lot in Colorado with the same layout for power and I called and got a quote. It was 8500 dollars total hard cost to me. Just about what I thought it would be. She thought 20,000 was way way to high. So fpl is really sticking it to people that want to build.

I just asked for a quote from we-bore-it company that is nation wide. I will find out if FPL will let me do this. I am guessing no. But I will see. If FPL is charging this much over 3 other states quotes 8000 to 9000 that I have worked in. I would bet that they have a lock on the market and that is how they can ask so much and get a way with it.
