BOOM CARS/SONIC ASSAULT VEHICLES: A NOISE WEAPON

Fellow City-Data community members the following is taken from a fact sheet concerning this very serious issue, our nation is divided on this issue just like on all the other issues of the day, it is truly outrageous that people can't seem to see where the line is drawn between a run of the mill stereo that is a little loud and annoying to some VS. A Pile Driving piece of garbage who's owner has only one sole purpose is to raise the ire of everyone within a a mile radius of them. If you have ever had your sleep interrupted by a "Big Foot like thumping Sonic Assault Vehicle Driving by your residence, then you know what we were talking about, if not then you will sooner or later, they are spreading like a plague and there is no rest for the weary. As for those scumbags like in St. Pete who deliberately parked their SAVs in front of a St. Pete officer's home and disturbed his family day and night, it should be a Felony and they should be considered by the Homeland Security Act as domestic terrorists! Just do a search online and see how many people out there are ready to take up arms against these bastards! They say things like; 12 gauge should take care of that" Rocket launcher will solve the problem "EMP weapon should to the trick. Well what should we expect when judges like the ones in the 2nd district of Florida don't understand the problem and do away with the only 25 foot law that protected citizens from this menace. Until sanity prevails in Florida as well as other states, no one is safe on the highways!

Our nation and state as well as local counties and cities have a major problem at all levels of government including state and local, with "boom cars," (cars equipped with mega loud stereo systems). "Boom cars" or what some prefer to call Sonic Assault Vehicles I.E. SAVs, have been closely linked by law enforcement agencies around the world to murder, aggression, gangs, and illegal drugs in some parts of America are used by drug dealing gangs to intimidate anyone who is opposed to their illicit activities.

All this information is substantiated and can easily be verified by doing a web search.

FACT "Boom cars" emit High-Intensity/Low-Frequency sound (excessive amounts of bass).
FACT This type of sound is dangerous to health, reduces property values and highway safety, contributes to road rage, and forces law-abiding citizens to seek quieter locales.
FACT High-Intensity/Low-Frequency sound is harmful to secondary listeners (like us), as well as the occupants of the "boom car" itself.
FACT One serious result of High-Intensity/Low-Frequency sound is Vibroacoustic Disease -- which is deadly.
In addition, some CDs used in "boom cars" produce a very low frequency level -- infrasound. Infrasound is deadly -- and has been used by the U.S. as a weapon.
FACT "Boom car" Web sites and "boom car" operators pride themselves on their use of infrasound. "Boom car" drivers are truly audio terrorists.
FACT Car stereo companies make billions of dollars a year selling powerful amplifiers and sub-woofers. Their stereo advertisements proudly encourage a "boom car" owner to "disturb the peace," defy authority, cause heart attacks in people over 40, refuse to turn the volume down, rattle people "from their cages of complacency," let neighbors FEEL you coming as well as hear you, buy sub-woofers that pop and bleed eardrums, buy amplifiers so powerful they can "blow the scalp off your head," and bolt on "performance they'll hear a mile away."
FACT Sonic Assault Vehicles make neighborhoods sound gang infested and drive down property value!
FACT Noise is the # 1 reason people move.
FACT The number # 1 killer of teenagers is car accidents. One of the # 1 reasons for teenage car accidents are driver distractions, such as the radio or CD player.
FACT Driver distractions account for 25-50% of all auto accidents in the U.S.
FACT High-Intensity/Low-Frequency sound decreases a driver's peripheral vision, masks the sounds of emergency vehicle sirens (such as ambulances), and contributes to road rage and aggression.
Take a teenager, who is an inexperienced driver, put him in a automobile weighing over 2,000 pounds. Add a powerful stereo system, loud exhaust system, and a hunger to prove himself to his peers... This does not spell highway safety!!
FACT This type of low frequency is known to be harmful to pregnant woman, infants and autistic children and can cause irreversible damage to fragile organs.

Please print out this info and share with everyone http://www.noiseoff.org/document/boom.car.book.pdf

FACT Strict noise ordinances, stiff fines, and penalties help curb and eliminate "boom cars" and the crime-related activities associated with them. In addition, public awareness and education on the hazards of this type of noise is essential. It is tragic when law enforcement personnel and city officials view this type of noise pollution as a "lesser offense" and, as a result, do not respond adequately. It is also tragic that on at least one occasion emergency vehicles have been impeded resulting in deaths. In one instance in OK, a young girl died in the back of an ambulance due to the impeding of traffic by two boom cars. If they can't hear the emergency vehicles what makes you think they can hear your lesser decible horn? In one case a boom car was struck by a on coming train because the driver could not hear it and that's very loud! NYC, Chicago, and other concerned cities are adopting stiff penalties and getting "boom cars" off their streets -- thereby providing peace and safety to their citizens. Recently, Youngstown, OH has adopted the policy of impounding "boom cars" and jail time for noise offenders. Here in Sarasota County they are everywhere and many residents suffer silently night after night, their evening ruined and nights and mornings boomed out of their sleep.
FACT The "right to quiet" is a RIGHT -- not just a privilege.
Cities and neighborhoods proactive in quality of life issues are neighborhoods heading in a positive direction for a healthy economic and domestic growth!
FACT Working together, we CAN reclaim peace, quiet, and safety for Sarasota our community and neighborhood!
JOIN THE MILLIONS WHO WILL COME OUT ON OCT 4th AT NATIONAL NIGHT OUT. IN SARASOTA THERE WILL BE AN EVENT FROM 6PM TO 9PM AT URFER FAMILY PARK, BEERIDGE & HONORE , BRING YOUR KIDS, PETS CONCERNS AND IDEAS!
Ironically this location is often plagued by passing boom cars and those that enter the park and loiter, ruining a quiet experience by all!

FACT those who would reply to this post in an inappropriate manner are the very same ones who are part of the problem here in Sarasota and around the state as well as nation, they are either booming themselves or are sympathetic. They dare not show their faces because if they did they would be labeled as "Trouble Makers" or as some citizens call them "Acoustic Terrorists. They would have you believe that there are more of them and less of you, which couldn't be further from the truth, people are fed up having their peace and quiet destroyed by this garbage! Stand up to the bass thugs come to National Night Out and make your voice heard!
FACT the 25 foot state law Florida Statute 316.3045. is still in effect in the state, it's not being enforced in the 2nd district court counties at this time due to State Vs. Catalano ruling, however it may be appealed by the Attorney General office, in the meantime to the best of our knowledge local noise ordinances still apply and are being enforced.

If you have any Vehicle complaint in Sarasota County you may call local law enforcement or 365-tags to report it

Most people would be shocked at how easy it is to rid your neighborhoods of these Noise Terrorists.

Your guaranteed weapon: your creativity, imagination and courage!

Or, instead of calling 311 for a Noise complaint, call 911 and report an "assault & battery". That's what it seems like to me when one of these Noise Terrorists comes thru my neighborhood: I've been assaulted or robbed of my peace of mind!

There are worse things the "terrorists" could be doing.

You have posted this here a couple times with not much response from anyone. Wouldn't that make you think either no one cares or no one else has the problem. I think your post is a bit over the top.

Seriously, anyone who calls 911 to report a car with a loud stereo driving by should have their butt carted off to jail.

*and charged with being a Class A idiot.

The media has so swamped people with the harmful effects of smoking, the harmful effects of Noise doesn't even show up on the radar screens of most people.

It would shock most people to learn that loud noise can trigger heart attacks in some people!

Remember: all noise changes the chemistry of the body!

I'm sorry but I have to agree that it's pretty rediculous to waste your time and everyones tax dollars to call 911, when a car with a loud stereo goes by your home. Most everyone has gone through the phase of listening to their music a little bit too loud for those within earshot, but we eventually grow out of it, and listen at a more respectable level,so as not to annoy others around us,and these vehicles usually move on within a few minutes anyway,I'm just sayin

You've never had the misfortune to stop at a long red light, a loud, thumping boom car next to yours? You roll up the windows, cuff your ears, nothing seems to work! One option, is to run the red light to escape the pain!

That's what they're doing in Roseville, Michigan, where an epidemic of boom cars has the residents in revolt, protesting at city hall. To escape the pain, many are merely running red lights, making illegal turns, relief at last!

That happened to me a couple months ago stopped at a red light. If there had been no traffic, I would have risked running the light. My hearing was not the same for another day!

Go ahead and minimize the dangers of boom cars all you want, time for them to go!

Good for Chicago, they'll even impound the vehicles, besides a fine!!!

This post has been written and rewritten is several incarnations here. Yes, everyone has a pet cause. Yours is obviously loud cars. OK, we get it.

But for God's sake, when people start suggesting calling 911 and lying about the offense, I would just like to say that is a worse crime than the one you are reporting, and you should be ashamed of yourself.

P.S. There are PLENTY of places in this country to live where you will virtually NEVER hear a loud car stereo, much less a "sonic deathmobile driven by domestic terrorists" or whatever it is you're saying.

In the time it has taken you to wring your hands over this for so long, you could have simply moved to a different town or neighborhood.

Life's too short.
