Hello All,

Wife and I heading to our home in North Port which we purchased a year ago. From Connecticut and have been down a few times getting it ready for our arrival. We cant wait!! My wife found a job no problem as she is a nurse. I on the other hand have had NO luck whatsoever. I have 25 years experience in the HVAC trade and owned my own business here in CT. I have impeccable references, both personal and professional. My resume is fine as I have had several others in the trade look at it. I spend my days faxing and emailing, answering ads on job websites, craigslist, etc. Nothing, not even a phone call!! I don't get it. Im not cold calling for a job. Do Floridians hate Im from Connecticut?? Im 45 years old. To old?? Is HVAC trade that flooded with experienced workers?? Anyone know of any companies in the area hiring?? Help would be appreciated. Thanks, Mike

theres a ton of hvac companies here. see all different names on trucks. you might have better luck once you get down here. dont be shocked at the difference in pay.

very few people are from here. alot of transplants. we got a couple old guys around here that like to bring up in conversation how long they have been here, like it means something. one guy says "ive been here since 2002" another to top that says "ive been here since 2002". best advice is dont act like you are from the tri state area and you will be better recieved.

All of the construction trades industry is hurting right now in this area and there are not too many jobs in that field. If you want to get an A/C license in the state of Florida you can go to their web site to find out more information. http://www.myfloridalicense.com/dbpr/pro/division/Servicesthatrequirealicense_Construction.html
If you get hired by a company, you can probably work under their license.

Here are some job posts I found in the area.

Job search sites: www.yoursun.com, www.jobfocus.com, www.indeed.com, www.simplyhired.com, www.careerbuilder.com, www.employflorida.com. Also check out the local government sites such as Sarasota County and Charlotte County.

I would also look up online the local HVAC companies and call around to see if they are hiring. Sometimes it is word of mouth and they donít always advertise.

I wish you the best on your move to our area of Florida and finding a job.
