Bob the local weatherman is predicting beautiful weather for this weekend, perfect for the many holiday events going on in the Sarasota area:

The local Human Society at 2331 15th St in Sarasota is hosting a "Deck the Paws" open house on Saturday, 11 am - 4 pm. Dog owners are invited to bring their furry friends, decked out in their holiday best, to enjoy portraits with Santa Paws, pet therapy & messages, treats, caroling and refreshments. (Dogs are required to be leashed and owners must provide proof of rabies vaccination.)

If you've never seen the Tabernacle Church's outdoor living nativity, that's one event you may want to put on your schedule for this weekend. Free performances will be held tonight, Saturday & Sunday nights at 7 & 8 pm. The Tabernacle is located at 4141 Desoto Road in Sarasota.

Another popular event is the Messiah Sing-along performance at the Church of the Redeemer at 222 South Palm. This year's event will be held at 7:30 pm on December 18th. A goodwill donation of $10 is requested for tickets. The audience is requested to join in the singing of Handel's Messiah.

Sarasota Jungle Gardens is another bright spot this weekend, literally, as they are continuing their Holiday of Lights event. It's very beautiful and reminds me of the holiday light events that used to be held at Cypress Gardens (now Legoland).

For something a little different, Michael's Wine Cellar on south Tamiami Trail is hosting a Holiday Champagne Tasting event on Sunday 4 - 6 pm for those wishing to sample champagnes and sparkling wines from around the world.

Tuesday, December 20th, is the Taste of Chanukah event at the Selby Five Points Parks at 5:00 pm. The event features food, entertainment & activities plus a huge ice sculpture Menorah.

We all have different paths in life, but no matter where yours takes you, I'd like to send everyone at city-data best wishes for a wonderful holiday season and a New Year filled with health and happiness.
