Unfortunately, most 55+ communities set a weight limit of under 50 lbs for dogs, sometimes less. I will see if I can find any exceptions for you.

As someone else mentioned, you might consider looking into a single family residence where dog size would not be an issue (a handful of HOAs put some limitations on pets, so be sure to check).

For social activities, you could perhaps consider a social membership in one of the local country clubs such as The Meadows or Palm Aire. The social memberships are typically the least expensive and would give you access to groups and activities where you can meet people.

Sarasota also offers a large number of other types of groups and places to volunteer, so you could perhaps meet people with similar interests that way.

I happen to live in a community that is not 55+ but we have an active social committee and they coordinate lots of potluck dinners, wine and cheese parties, dances, game nights, Saturday morning coffees, etc for the residents. There aren't a lot of neighborhoods that are not 55+ with social committees, but they are out there.

Perhaps one of these alternative options would work for you.
