My cousin just got hired at Publix as a product selector in the distribution warehouse in Sarasota FL..Clark Rd.. making $15/hour. Anyone ever worked there or know anything about the job? Many people have stated that there are hardly any jobs in SW Florida, but my cousin just got hired after being in Venice Florida for 2 months. Anyone ever work for at this location

I can't say anything about the job in particular, but Publix is supposedly a very good company to work for. I've known many people who have worked at Publix for years. The benefits should be very good too. Working in a grocery warehouse, I'm guessing it's going to involve a lot of heavy lifting, etc., but if your cousin can handle it, it would seem to me that he may have landed a decent paying job by Sarasota standards (That is assuming that he doesn't have any other specialized skills, i.e. carpentry, plumbing, etc. that would earn him as much if not more doing something else).

Publix is a great company to work for. They're gestapo when it comes to working inside the actual store.... Know it from experience and people who works there.

As for benefits, make sure he gets on 401k, and starts buying publix stock ASAP!!! People with a lot of years at Publix who are buying stock (which is privately owned) are pretty much millionaires and set. On the top of that they give you retirement plan. So you can't beat the benefits!!!

Default Questionable....

Is your cousin working full-time or part-time for Publix?

Here's some information from the Publix website regarding wages for your cousins Selector position.

"Starting pay is $11.20 to $11.76 per hour, depending on location, but within weeks, you can be earning much more. Some Selectors earn more than $18.00 per hour! Once you've been trained, you can earn $14 an hour for meeting the base efficiency standard, $15.40 an hour for achieving 10% above that standard, $16.10 an hour for achieving 15% above that standard. We offer a flexible environment. You have the freedom to work hard and earn a large paycheck one week or work at a more relaxed pace when you don't mind earning less another week. It's totally up to you."

That $15.00 an hour or $18.00 an hour is not a locked in wage. Their is no guarantee he will make that much, and it sounds like whatever he makes really depends on a lot of variables.

Good luck to him , regardless of what he makes an hour, since jobs are hard to come by in Sarasota these days.

My X worked at the Publix Dist. Center. He made very good money, had great benefits. He did say the work was very hard, but he loved working there.
He drove a fork lift most of the time. But also worked in the huge freezers, that he didnt care for. Loaded trucks by hand also if I remember right.
He was there for a number of years.

Our state is on the economic disaster list and so is yours. This is a two year old post. Things have drastically changed. Contact Publix.

Greetings everyone, I as well as Ju anca am relocating from Upstate, NY to Sarasota, Fl within the next month ( keeping my fingers crossed ). I have experience working in the distribution center atmosphere for WalMart in Marcy, NY. I have two question one: With the experience i have (mainly in the shipping department) how hard would it be for me to gain employment with Publix? And two: with that experience would the horuly wage increase at all upon hire? Feedback if possible would be greatly appreciated. [mod] no personal e-mails here please . Have people DM you instead [/mod]
