Try some Good Will stores also, there is one on Cortez Rd in Bradenton across from the bolwling alley that has furniture. Not bad stuff either and reasonably priced. It's a Habitat for Humanity type place. I'm sorry but I don't know the exact name..

I've gotten furniture from Habitat ReStore on 17th Street, Goodwill on 17th and Honore and also on the North Trail, and Fabulous Finds (the southern one) on Orange. There's an awesome little store right across the alley from Fabulous Finds called Ken's Lost and Found- we recently bought two fantastic shelving units there (solid wood) for $200. SavOn is a furniture store near 301 and DeSoto- it's fine, but most of the furniture is about the same quality as Rooms To Go. The American Signature on University also has nice stuff, as other posters have mentioned.

Big fines if you didn't have your items sprayed.
That doesn't seem to be the case here. Since I came here with a minimum of items as well, I have been purchasing used furniture here. What I did was look online for the stuff we used. It is called Steri-Fab. It is not cheap, (about $40 gallon which includes shipping). I spray it on the upholstered pieces. Gives some piece of mind, as I know there was never any bug problems with the furniture that was sold in the store where I worked.
Does it leave a stain on non-washable fabrics? So many upholstered pieces have some silk in them.

No, it never stained anything i sprayed it with fabric wise. It does have a heavy alcohol smell initially but dries quickly and then no smell. However, be careful not to get it on wood. It will leave spots.
